JUNE 2023 GO! Ambassador of the Month | Kenya
September 6, 2023
by GO! Kenya Team & Peter Maangi
Join us in celebrating Peter Maangi of Nairobi, as our GO! Ambassador of the month of June in Kenya.
His efforts are a great example of how we can love others. Peter heard this call to serve the less-fortunate and matched this call with action. We are impressed with Peter and many like him as they journey forward to serve orphan children.
My name is Peter Maangi, and I am a 45-year-old family man residing in Nairobi, although originally from Kitui County. I am blessed with a loving wife and four wonderful children. Besides being a dedicated family man, I also serve as a pastor at the Tuma Neno Prophetic Church in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi. In addition to my pastoral duties, I am a carpenter by trade.
My journey with the Great Commandment Workshop, which took place at Harvest International Ministries in Eastlands in May 2022, was an inspiring and transformative experience. I first learned about this workshop through my involvement in the Kamukunji Pastors Fellowship, where I have the privilege of chairing meetings and interacting with other pastors who shared their positive experiences.
Before attending the workshop, my heart was already inclined towards supporting the less privileged, particularly the orphans who could often be seen begging on the streets. I am part of a local table banking and saving group, and I knew that we could mobilize our resources to make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable individuals.
In June, our group took its first step towards making a meaningful impact. We collectively contributed funds to aid one orphan and two widows by purchasing essential food items for them. Each person received shopping worth KS 1,000/. One of the widows, a brave soul, is taking care of three orphans, with one in secondary school and two others in primary school. The other widow, who stays alone, has daughters who are married, but she continues to face life's challenges courageously.
This experience was a turning point for me personally, as it marked the first time I had actively supported orphans, thanks to the encouragement and insights gained from the workshop facilitated by Global Orphan Relief. I have since been motivated to encourage my fellow group members to continue this noble endeavor. We are committed to supporting orphans and widows regularly, with faith that God will provide the means to fulfill this calling.
The most significant challenge we face in our mission is financial constraints. While our hearts are filled with the desire to support those in need, resources are often limited. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that "an orphan has no one to depend on other than God," and we are merely instruments through which His blessings flow. The act of giving is a blessing, and as we support these orphans, we trust that God will bless us in His own remarkable way.
In conclusion, I would like to encourage fellow Christians and all individuals of goodwill to heed the call to support the less privileged, especially the orphans and widows. The Great Commandment Workshop has taught me that our actions of love and compassion can bring hope and change to those in need. Let us continue to be vessels of God's love, knowing that our efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
God bless you all.
Sincerely, Peter Maangi

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 12,821 children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.
Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting. Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others. Through these workshops we are:
Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022. We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically. We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.
We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 3,788 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,200 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops. In July, this GO! Ambassador Network served 10,285 orphan children.
