JULY 2023 GO! Ambassador of the Month | Kenya

September 28, 2023

by GO! Kenya Team & Claude Nganga

Join us in celebrating Claude Nganga of Wundanyi, as our GO! Ambassador of the month of July in Kenya.

His efforts are an example of how we can love others by serving. Claude heard this call to serve orphan children and then took action. We are glad that Pastor Claude is part of our GO! Ambassador Network and look forward to seeing how God uses him into the future.

Pastor Claude Nganga

My name is Claude Nganga, a 42-year-old family man who resides with my loving wife and five wonderful children, two of whom are adopted. We have shared our home with these children for over 14 years now. Among our children, one is currently in Form 1 at Mgamboni High School, while the other is attending Mgamboni Primary School. Family has always been at the center of my life, and I am proud to have the privilege of being a husband and a father.

In addition to my roles within my family, I serve as a pastor at Lango La Uhai Church in Wundanyi, as well as an overseer at Covenant Promises Heirs in Taita Taveta. Beyond my pastoral duties, I engage in irrigation farming in the Taita Taveta region, striving to make a difference in my community.

Great Commandment Workshop at White Rhino in Mombasa, Kenya | February 2022

My journey with the Great Commandment Workshop began when I received information about it from a fellow pastor in Taita Taveta. Intrigued by the prospect of expanding my understanding and capacity to support those in need, I decided to attend the workshop, which took place at the White Rhino Hotel in Mombasa in February 2022.

Before participating in the workshop, I was already advocating for church members to actively support orphans and the less privileged in our society. However, the workshop provided me with invaluable insights on how to enhance our efforts and engage our church members more effectively in this mission.

One significant experience that underscored the importance of our work was when I supported Sarafina Children’s Home in Kilifi. During that time, the home faced a difficult situation when their donors withdrew their support. Despite running a small business, I stepped in to assist them. This experience reinforced my commitment to making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

In July 2023, I had the privilege of donating farm produce twice from my own farm to Upendo Destitute Home in Githurai, Nairobi. The donations included green maize and vegetables. To give you an idea, one sack contained between 100-120 pieces of maize. I have been supporting this home for some time now, even when the perishable goods couldn't be transported. In such cases, I sold the goods and sent the money to Upendo Destitute Home, which cares for 32 children.

Certainly, there have been challenges along the way. One of the most significant challenges I faced was the breakdown of the borehole during a dry season. This unfortunate event made it impossible to irrigate our crops, resulting in a smaller harvest. Consequently, I couldn't send as much food to the children as I would have liked.

In conclusion, I firmly believe in the principle that when we extend a helping hand to those less privileged, we are, in fact, touching the body of Christ. In everything we do for humanity, there is a profound sense of fulfillment and a recognition that our actions will ultimately come back to us. As we embrace the teachings and principles of God, let us continue to give generously and make a positive impact on the lives of others.

May we all be inspired to keep making a difference in our communities and serving as vessels of God's love and compassion.

Warm regards,

Claude Nganga

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 16,094 children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.

We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 3,788 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,200 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops. In August, this GO! Ambassador Network served 13,558 orphan children.
