Reaping and Sowing
Global Orphan Relief Update – House of Faith Orphanage, Silembe, Zambia
When I went out this week I found our moms had harvested what beans they could. It was about 2.5 gallons which is about what they planted. They plowed and replanted what they harvested. New plants are coming up and we are praying another harvest will come much bigger than the first one.
No rain for the month of January was the problem here, and the beans take about 60 days to grow.
We lost the pumpkins and melons except maybe for 3-4 plants that were in the shade of the trees. Sweet Potatoes are still looking good from the tops -we will see in April what is below. The popcorn the children planted was also reduced by no rain so a very small harvest is expected.
We can’t control the weather…… Blessings from Zambia, Linda Jones
NEED: Our plan to serve 1,440 children can be achieved in 2018. As of November 2017, we serve 688 children in DR Congo, South Sudan, and Zambia. (218 children in Zambia)
In South Sudan alone, there are another 900 children waiting for life-saving aid. These children are within the geographic area in which we serve today. Our plan will include serving these children in some way in 2018. This will increase our budget for South Sudan by $17,400 for 2018.
In addition, the administrative and fundraising budget will increase based on our larger volume of children to $80,000 (19% of our overall budget), which will provide the capacity required for us to serve 1,697 children monthly by the end of 2018, and provide a foundation to build upon as to how we serve orphaned children going into 2019.
Here are following ways you can help:
1) Pray for Global Orphan Relief.
2) Volunteer -please reach out to us via phone, this website, or via email.
3) Keep up to date with our progress on our BLOG and or our FACEBOOK page.
4) Help us grow our resources for feeding the children in South Sudan at FEEDING PROGRAM. Since February 2016 we have provided for 154,800 meals in South Sudan.
5) “Teach One Child, & Save Thousands!” Help us keep the children attending School through our Scholarship program in DR Congo and Zambia. The feeding program in South Sudan also keeps the children coming to school each day.
6) To grow this movement will require additional resources and you can contribute to this effort at CAPACITY 1440.
