Water is Life – South Sudan, Africa

Since Pastor Garang’s visit in July we have been working toward solutions in South Sudan that will have a positive impact for the children we serve through our partnership there.

Based on our discussion, and as you can see by the below summary, there is much work to do in each of the 4 locations where we serve with Christ Mission to the World. Pastor Garang and I agreed that clean water for Aweil Town and Luethwek Village was the next step in our development.

There is no clean water nearby the schools which makes it difficult for the children to remain hydrated and prevents us from providing meals and keeps us from any further development.  Locals only option was to gather water from shallow wells often times making the people sick.

I began by reaching out to numerous organizations that do water projects in the region. One of the organizations we did come in contact with was Water for South Sudan. After several months of communication, we received notification last month that they would travel to the Aweil area and complete an assessment at the two schools in the need of water; Aweil Town & Luethwek Village.

We are very thankful for Water for South Sudan (www.waterforsouthsudan.org), and their donors, as they agreed to provide us two bore holes at the two schools in need.  In fact, I received a call from Pastor Garang earlier this week informing me that drilling had started at Luethwek.  He did tell me  that they did hit water, but they are going deeper!  This is an awesome blessing for the children and communities in Aweil that will provide us further opportunities to serve the children in these locations.  It is a beautiful thing when God pulls His people together to bless His children.

This will impact 650 orphaned children giving them access to clean water while at school.

One of GO!’s major shifts in the last several months is a greater focus on sustainable activities that will benefit orphaned children.  We look forward to bringing you many opportunities to serve children in this way, and I am confident that we will share multiple successes together in 2018!
