HOHO Updates
UPDATE from Zambia | House of Hope Orphanage (HOHO) | Sinazongwe, Zambia
Our cross/ lighthouse on the Community Center is looking so GREAT at HOHO. What a witness for such a dark place that needs HOPE.
Another picture is from the inside looking up at the roof, the very top is a wind turbine sucking out the hot air. In this area of Zambia, that is often times referred to as the Valley, it does get very hot in the summer season.
For safety, the cement lids for the septic system are also being made and should be finished soon.
Another picture is of the 2nd houses beds. We are trying medal bunk beds this time for the 2nd home. They are the same price as the wood beds and they could be easily transported all in one trip. We will work on getting them put together when we arrive back to HOHO.
The Community Center will be used to hosts guest, accommodate an orphanage director or other personnel, and provide a study area for the children.
Plans started for the House of Hope Orphanage in 2010, and opened in 2013. With the HOHO project, it took us nearly 29-months longer from planning start to date of receiving our first child than it did at House of Faith Orphanage.
The reason it took us longer at HOHO were numerous issues experienced both in the U.S. and in Zambia. It did take us some time to coordinate with local officials for approvals to begin the development, then delays in drilling for water, several funding delays based on HOHO being on the power grid so there were large additional expenses involved with the process, construction at the HOHO location is more challenging due to the terrain, and lastly, we took 12-months to wait for just the right housemom. Housemoms are a critical element in providing physical, spiritual, and emotional support for growth of the children we serve.
Much is happening at HOHO where we now care for 12 children, support 1 orphan from this location that is in our extended child care program, and support 107 orphans that participate in our scholarship program. We are making a very big impact in the brief time that we have served from this location.
The Community Center is scheduled to be completed for the most part in 2016. Of the $15,500 needed to fund this completion, we have $10,400 to go. You may give at https://globalorphanrelief.org/community-center/ or you can fund through a Go Fund Me campaign found at https://www.gofundme.com/2e8tkffd.
