South Sudan Update

As you might be aware, we have been serving in South Sudan since Q1 of this year along side Christ Mission to the World to feed 300 orphans in the Aweil area.  The following is a recent message from our partner contact Garang Chan Majok->

Greetings and I hope you are all well.

Thank you very much for your concern and continued support.  I am sure by now you have heard and seen in the news of the heavy fighting that took place in Juba South Sudan on 7th and 8th and 10th July which has claimed many lives again and displaced over 150,000 people.  The displaced people are in dire need of support.  The fighting was between the government forces and soldiers allied to Dr. Machar.  It is sad that so many people lost their lives in the fighting again.  This morning there is report of continued fighting in Juba.  Also in Wau in Bahr El Ghazal and Bentiu in Unity State.  (Wau is less than 100 miles from Aweil)  This is a very sad situation that is threatening to disrupt the peace that was there after the peace agreement that was signed last year in August between the government and the rebels and the formation of unity government in April this year which gave people high hopes for peace and stability.

We pray that the fighting will stop and the situation is brought back under control.  We are appealing for prayers from you that the fighting comes to an end and peace is restored in Juba and in other parts of the country.  We also need to pray that there will be lasting peace in the country and that people are reconciled.  The families that have lost their loved ones also need prayers and that God may give them peace and comfort.  May God almighty give rest to those who lost their lives in the fighting. We also need to pray that the fighting does not spread to other places in the country.

The displaced people are in need of your prayers and financial support during this difficult time for them and the country as a whole.  I am happy to report that Aweil is not affected with the fighting and everything is calm in the area.  We thank God for the peace and safety in Aweil area.  It is our prayer and hope that God will keep this peace and safety in Aweil and God will bring peace to areas that are currently experiencing fighting.  Some of the displaced people from Wau have come to Aweil for their safety and are in need of financial support for relief food and other non-food relief items.  The problem we have been having in Aweil since the beginning of the year is the starvation which has forced thousands of people to leave for North Sudan in search of food and those who were left behind are in critical condition and need your prayers and financial support to save thousands of lives that are at risk.

Therefore I am appealing to you for your prayers and support and request you to make this need known to other people that may be of assistance to the displaced and starving people in South Sudan. Thank you for your concern and continued support.

Wishing you many blessing and many thanks for your concern.

We currently support 300 orphaned children in South Sudan’s Aweil area, but there are many more in need.  For $50 per month you can provide food, malaria medication, and mosquito nets to 5 children each month.  Your support will not only help us fulfill our current commitment of $3,000 monthly, but will help us grow this program to impact an additional 300 children.https://globalorphanrelief.org/malaria-relief/
