Great Commandment Workshop Empowers 251 Ministry Leaders to Serve Orphaned Children

On Saturday, April 12th, Lusaka, Zambia became the gathering place for a powerful move of God as 251 ministry leaders came together for the Great Commandment Workshop at Saint Paul’s United Church of Zambia. This impactful event was born out of much prayer and a deep desire to equip the Body of Christ to respond to the Biblical call to care for orphaned and vulnerable children.
The workshop featured a rich lineup of speakers who passionately spoke on a range of topics including the Biblical mandate to serve orphan children, the Christian response to vulnerable children, childhood trauma, and Zambian government policies on child protection. Attendees also explored practical and sustainable ways to engage with and serve orphans within their local communities.

A key highlight of the day was the commissioning of 193 individuals as GO! Ambassadors. These newly commissioned leaders made a public commitment to serve orphan children in their churches, communities, and beyond — carrying the message of love, advocacy, and practical support.
Following the commissioning, Pastor Barry Ilunga, National Leader for Church Mobilization in Zambia, took time to brief the newly anointed GO! Ambassadors on their next steps in their journey. He encouraged them to walk in faith, stay connected, and remain focused on God’s heart for the fatherless. He then led a powerful prayer over the group, asking for God’s guidance, strength, and favor as they step into this vital ministry.
The atmosphere was filled with a sense of urgency, purpose, and hope as the Church rose to answer the call of James 1:27 — “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
We praise God for the movement He is stirring across Zambia, and we look forward to seeing the ripple effect of these Ambassadors as they GO! to love and serve orphaned children with compassion, wisdom, and boldness.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provide oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition. In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative by which we are mobilizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 20,209 children in seven countries in Africa & Asia within these four initiatives.
Beyond the financial commitment of co-hosting Great Commandment Workshops, this effort is Indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting. Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others. Through these workshops, we are:
Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022. We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically. We track the impact of children served through this through local GO! teams in each country.
We have co-hosted and facilitated thirty-two workshops in Africa & Asia where we have hosted more than 5,000 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission more than 4,000 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and have made a commitment to serve children in their community. We encourage them in their journey to serve others each month. In addition, we do provide additional training and encouragement through our online Great Commandment Academy.
In February 2025, this GO! Ambassador Network served 13,907 orphan children.
