December 2023 GO! Ambassador of the Month | Kenya

February 10, 2024

by GO! Kenya Team

Join us in celebrating Pastor David as our GO! Ambassador of the month of December in Kenya.

David Nyongesa, a 61-year-old family man and pastor at Kamitha Pentecostal Assembly of God in Kawangware, Nairobi, and is also a small-scale farmer.

Invited to the Great Commandment Workshop in May 2022 by a church leader at the New Shiloh Pentecostal Assembly, David attended without knowing the aim of the teachings. He gained valuable insights into children's rights and ways to help abused orphans. David learned various methods to support orphans.

He had been aiding church members facing different issues, with contributions from members. For example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, he connected people with organizations providing food to the less privileged but did not donate.

After the workshop, David decided to personally support orphans with what he could. In December, he purchased 25kg of rice, distributing it to orphans, widows, and the needy in the Waruku area, giving 1kg to each person.

In conclusion, David stated, "God is the God of both orphans and widows, using us to reach out to them. God blesses us by helping others. Let’s continue serving the orphans, following the great commandment and showing the love of God."

Congratulations to Pastor David for this recognition as he encourages others to walk out in obedience to the scriptures. Well done!

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition. In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobilizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 16,196 children in Asia (unnamed country), Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.

We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 4,032 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,638 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and make a commitment to serve children in their community. In December, this GO! Ambassador Network served 13,909 orphan children.
