The Nkirote Family

The Nkirote Family

by GO! Kenya

March 23, 2023

We held a Great Commandment Workshop in Meru County on 25th June 2022. This event was organized by Minister Isaiah of Global Orphan Relief in conjunction with United Methodist Church Eastern Kenya District. After hearing the clarion call to serve orphan children, the United Methodist Church Eastern Kenya District Board decided to start care centers through the UMC Churches, while working to expand this work to other denominations.

They now continue the process of establishing these centers throughout their network of churches, as they gather volunteers and resources to properly serve in their communities.

The intent of these workshops is to deploy the local church to serve orphan children, but we have provided aid in some instances when the situation is dire. We believe that the Nkirote family is just such a case. The Nkirote family’s story follows…

Caroline Nkirote was born in 1992 in Meru County, Kenya. Her mother died when she was young, then her father remarried. Her dad and stepmom were left with the job of providing for what remained of the family. Due to financial challenges, Caroline was only able to study up to grade 8. As is the case in many villages, she was married at a young age and was blessed with twin girls followed, by a girl and more recently, triplets.

The children are as follows: Nelly and Terry are both 13 years of age, and Ireen is 7 years old. They all study at Kaugu Primary School-Meru. Nelly and Terry are in Grade 6, and Ireen is in grade 3. Caroline’s triplets are Kingsley, Queensley and Prince and are just 7-months old.

Caroline’s first husband John passed in 2021 due to illness. He unfortunately left the family without any means of an income. She then entered a relationship last year with another man, and their union brought forth a bundle of joy with triplets. Unfortunately, the man deserted the family after Caroline delivered the triplets. He has gone and has not bothered to send any support for this family of six children. Caroline has experienced difficulty in feeding and educating her 6 children.

Currently, she has no formal job. She had been washing clothes for the neighbors to get something to feed the family, but since having the triplets she has been unable to do any work. This family has survived under the generosity of well-wishers who supports the family with provisions, however, this support is irregular. For Caroline, the task of providing for her six children is monumental, and at times, hopeless.

Caroline is a committed believer and attends United Methodist Church-Meru. Her prayer has been for well-wishers to come and support the family with food provisions and school fees for the older girls on a regular basis.

We supported this family for the month of March and will most likely do so in the future as resources allow. We would like to enlist several people who would be willing to commit support for this family monthly. As part of our Home-based Care initiative, we would like to provide $180 monthly to supplement the local support that she has been receiving.

Let us pray for this family as they begin having hope for the future as they lack the resources in which to properly care for one another.

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We will track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment; however, we have no plans to be funding the care of children through this initiative. We have held thirteen Great Commandment Workshop events in Kenya, Zambia, and Asia, since our launch.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Minister Isaiah Githinji Kimani is currently the Director designate for the Global Orphan Relief’s Church Mobilization Initiative in Kenya and beyond. He coordinates and leads Great Commandment Workshops throughout Kenya and has deployed to Zambia and India to grow this effort. Like minded churches are enlisted to co-host these events under the Global Orphan Relief nonprofit organization based in Colorado, USA.  He is leading to champion the rights, interests, and well-being of orphan children by deploying the local Church to be more focused on serving these children in their communities.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. We will impact an estimated 8,000 orphan children this month (March 2023) in DR Congo, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within our Home-based Care, Scholarship, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization Initiatives.
