by GO! Kenya Team

Join us in celebrating Jessie Nyaga, of Embu, as our GO! Ambassador of the month of August in Kenya.

Jessie’s story is an inspirational testimony of resilience, determination, and obedience. We are blessed to have Jessie as part of our GO! Ambassador Network in Kenya, and look forward to seeing how God might use her in the future…

Jessie Nyaga

Jessie Nyaga, a dedicated 69-year-old mother of four and a respected church elder at ACK Good Samaritan in Embu, has a remarkable journey of service and compassion. Her story, rooted in a deep commitment to helping orphans and the less privileged, is a testament to the transformative power of care and support.

As a retired worker at St. Stephen's Children's Home, Jessie's journey into serving orphans and vulnerable children took a significant turn during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2022, she attended The Great Commandment Workshop (GCW) at St. Paul in Embu, an event she participated in through her church's invitation.

During the pandemic, Jessie, along with a close friend, recognized the vulnerable position of young girls who were being taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals. With unwavering determination, they stepped in to make a difference. Together, they rescued these girls and provided them with valuable life skills training, including cooking and mat-making. More importantly, they shared the word of God to instill hope and purpose.

Their commitment extended to visiting these girls twice a week, offering guidance, and sharing their own experiences to help them overcome their challenges. The church played a crucial role by providing the necessary materials and support to further their cause.

In August, Jessie's compassion knew no bounds as she rescued a total orphaned girl trapped in an early and abusive marriage, resulting in the birth of two children. Jessie, who owns rental properties, generously offered her one single-room house for accommodation and even established a small business to sustain the young mother. She provided the much-needed guidance and counseling to help her overcome the trauma of her past.

Despite her unwavering dedication, financial constraints have posed a significant challenge for Jessie. She ardently desires to support the orphaned girl and her children on their journey to education and a brighter future. Sadly, this story is not unique, as numerous other orphans find themselves trapped in abusive early marriages, lacking the necessary parental guidance to escape such dire situations.

In Jessie's words, "There are blessings that come with serving the orphans. In the Gospel of Mark, when Jesus was teaching, the disciples asked Him to disperse the crowd, but Jesus urged the disciples to feed them. Through that, I understood we have the responsibility of feeding and serving the less privileged."

Jessie Nyaga's heartfelt testimony serves as an inspiration and a call to action. By supporting her mission and the countless other orphans and vulnerable children, we can play our part in fulfilling the responsibility of feeding and serving the less privileged, just as Jesus taught. Your contribution can make a meaningful impact and bring hope to those in need. Join us in this noble endeavor and be a beacon of light in the lives of orphans and the less privileged. Your support can truly transform lives.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 13,860 children in Asia (unnamed country), Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.

We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 4,032 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,638 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and make a commitment to serve children in their community. In September, this GO! Ambassador Network served 11,324 orphan children.
