Vineyard Church | Kalumbila Great Commandment Workshop

Vineyard Church | Kalumbila Great Commandment Workshop

December 4, 2023

by GO! Zambia Team

We held our fourth Great Commandment Workshop (GCW) in Zambia on October 28th at a place called Kalumbila. We were honored to host 183 ministry leaders from the surrounding areas, and one of these leaders was Memory Lombe Kapembwa.

She was kind enough to share her experience with us recently and wanted to pass along her thoughts.

She attended the workshop facilitated by our GO! Zambia Church Mobilization parter, Pastor Barry Ilunga of WOTA, and the day was heart warming as she expressed.

And it's Yes for me! I have decided I want to provide a home to an orphan child in our community.

Memory already has three children but wants to have another based on the call that she experienced at the GCW. She had been considering another children for some time and has decided that there is a child out there what will be her own.

I want to do it not for God to bless me but for the love I have for him. Thanks for much for the opportunity to attend the workshop in Kalumbila. May the good God continue blessing you.

We have co-hosted four GCW’s in Zambia since October 2022 and have shared with Great Commandment, with an emphasis on serving orphan children, with 992 ministry leaders during these meetings. As a result, we have deployed 756 GO! Ambassadors in Zambia to serve orphan children in their communities who aided 2,220 of these children in Zambia in the month of October.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. In October, we impacted 14,510 children in Asia (country not named), Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.

We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty-two workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 4,032 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,419 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops. In October, this GO! Ambassador Network served 12,228 orphan children.
