The risk of water-borne disease in the wake of local flooding is critical; a cholera epidemic has already affected thousands of people, causing reported deaths. It is important that we act now to avoid the spread of water-borne diseases and the transmission of vector-borne diseases such as malaria. The flooding has already cause some entire villages to relocate due to destroyed roads, homes, crops and vegetables all over the affected areas. The situation will only get worse with the rains not expected to stop until late in the year, causing more people to need temporary housing and urgent humanitarian help. We have already experienced loss of life by one of our students in Adoor.

In response to these needs, Global Orphan Relief, in partnership with CHRIST MISSION TO THE WORLD, is urgently making an appeal for $6,000 for supplies of malaria, typhoid, cholera medicines, and mosquito nets supplies to the affected communities for an immediate intervention.

This purpose of this funding will be to provide Medical Relief for 3,160 vulnerable children, of which 1,452 are orphans, in Adoor Village, Beliek Village, and Luethwek Village where we currently feed these children with our partners Christ Mission to the World and Kids for the Kingdom. This will include other preventative measures such as mosquito nets.

By supplying basic drugs to curve and alleviate worsening health conditions of affected populations especially students whose lives will be saved. All three schools lack medical supplies because these villages are a great distance from the state capital and have limited access due to heavy rains. The basic medical supplies that are needed includes Anti-malarial drugs, diahorreal drugs, deworming drugs and mosquito nets that will help prevent children suffering from these waterborne diseases.

Upon the delivery, these supplies will rescue and boost the morale of beneficiaries at the centres and promising reduction of more cases. These drugs and supplies will be stored and distributed from the feeding centres located at each of the three schools and will be administered based on need.

While our emphasis has been providing food to three village schools in the Aweil area of South Sudan, we provided assistance last month to distribute meds to the children that were brought in from Kenya.

We have served in South Sudan since 2016 and have provided an estimated 1.5 million meals impacting more than 3,200 children in South Sudan. The scale of this initiative has grown by over 7 times since our launch in 2016, and this growth is driven by the near-famine conditions and other socio-economic challenges in this country.

In cooperation with two partners, Kids for the Kingdom & Christ Mission to the World, there has been $130,000 invested in these three school sites since October 2020. This investment provides for clean water, kitchens, storerooms, and latrines, all which allows for cost-effective distribution of food aid in these communities.
