2022 Field Support Update
2022 Field Support Update
July 30, 2022
by Scott Nordstrom
Our results through June are in and I wanted to give you an idea of how we are doing the mission to serve orphan children. I also wanted to provide you data in terms of how we are investing in the field at this time.
Since we began our Field Realignment in May of this year, our headcount has decreased in our Home-Based Care and Scholarship Initiatives and has increased in our Nutrition Initiative. In addition, we are beginning to realize and measure the impact on orphan children -based on the launch of our Church Mobilization Initiative, but the results are still early.
Since April the number of children we serve is down by 231 or 10%. We really don’t see any additional fall-off in terms of the number of children we’ll serve through the end of the year, and in fact we have already increased support for many of our partnerships in the field. While our Field Realignment did relive some financial pressure, our realignment was more strategic in nature as we focus on these current partnerships through the end of 2022. There is a real sense that we have regained our footing over the last three months and increased the focus on our mission to serve orphan children.
Our field investment in the first six months of 2022 have been as follows-
What we have seen across all of our initiatives is an increase in costs based on what we provide to the children. Specifically, some of the food costs in some of our partnerships have increased well over 100% since March. These costs have been difficult to absorb, along with the decrease in funding we experienced for most of the first six months of the year.
What you might notice here is the inverse relationship with our Home-Based Care Initiative (HBC). While this initiative provided for only 1,181 childcare months, it was by far our largest field investment in care. HBC is our most expensive initiative on a cost per child basis which causes this to occur.
We are confident that we will navigate the third quarter with the same level of favor as we press forward to fulfill our mission to serve orphan children.
Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. As of July we serve 2,135 orphan children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within our Home-based Care, Nutrition, Scholarship, & Church Mobilization Initiatives.
