Light House Orphanage Receives more Orphan Children

By Thiik-awet,

Aweil, SOUTH SUDAN

Late in 2021, the Light House Orphanage received additional orphan children that were in dire need. The Light House center allocates resources for accommodation, feeding, and care for orphan children.

The needs for these children without parental care have amplified dramatically with more influxes as hunger situation is worsening in South Sudan. The total number of children in the center has tripled in the last few months of the year as hunger looms following last year’s flood which affected most crops.

According to Mary Abak Anei, a caregiver at the Light House Centre, the number has increased to 105 from just 25 in the last months of 2021.

“The number has children is increasing daily and we lack accommodation. We are accommodating some of them in -not in houses but in the church.” Mary confirms.

She also says the feeding is progressing well and that they are blessed to have GO! supporting such helpless kids in South Sudan.

This center was established in July 2020 when the Church’s faithful found 15 kids being abandoned on the streets without being supportive to themselves. These children were brought to the church premises where they got accommodated and survived on church offerings till August 2020 when Global Orphan Relief intervened with feeding and other basic needs for the children. Currently, there over 100 orphaned
kids benefiting under the care of Light House Orphanage with support from GO!.

We have served in South Sudan since 2016 and have provided an estimated 1.3 million meals impacting more than 3,200 children in South Sudan. The scale of this initiative has grown by over 7 times since our launch in 2016, and this growth is driven by the near-famine conditions and other socio-economic challenges in this country.

The Light House Orphanage began a relief effort for children living on the streets of Aweil, South Sudan. These children were in desperate need of aid and remain so today.
