GO! | BRIDGE OF HOPE MISSION

August 17, 2021

By Scott Nordstrom

I returned from Kenya on Friday, August 13th, where I spent nearly two weeks serving, meeting, preaching, and being blessed in the process.

As many of you know we serve orphaned children today in 3 initiatives; Home-based Care, Scholarship, and Nutrition, and we serve 2,044 in DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia.

I have been working on a concept for a fourth initiative that I call the Great Commandment Workshop (GCW).  This is really an effort to encourage the local church to care for the poor in their midst generally, and for orphan children specifically.  This concept is not something we have ‘officially’ decided to launch yet, but we tested the concept in Kenya earlier this month.

With the assistance of Pastors Isaiah Kimani and Benson Musyimi, we hosted an event at the Arise Christian Ministries church on a Saturday for about four hours.  We had nearly 40 ministry and education leaders attend.  The model that we have developed is to have a handful of local leaders speak of what they are accomplishing for the vulnerable in their communities, with an emphasis on ministry to orphan children, and we also share from our experience of what God is accomplishing on the behalf of His children through GO!.

The feedback based on our four-hour session was positive and encouraging.  During another part of my stay I met with several other Pastors and we were able to enlist one of the biggest churches in Nairobi to host an all day event in February for our official kick-off.

I will share more about our trip in coming posts and will release additional details regarding the GCW in the coming months.

Our 2021 Bridge of Hope Mission was focused on what we might do in the future to serve orphaned children in Kenya.  The needs are overwhelming for so many children and God is calling the local church to take action.  Hope is always future oriented, and has we posture ourselves to meet the challenges of the future, to do so without hope is to walk into the darkness

Many of you are to be commended for what God has already used us to do in Kenya.  In places like Fortune Learners Centre, a place where 74 orphaned children are empowered to get an education, and another 79 vulnerable children receive support via a W.A.S.H. program that is supported by Global Orphan Relief.  I was able to spend several days with these children and I am happy to provide you a good report.  These children are receiving an education, clean water, and the Word of God because of your efforts.

If you would consider being involved with our 2021 Bridge of Hope Mission we can continue to provide education opportunities for these children through 2021.  Education is instrumental in providing Hope for the Future and is foundational for breaking the cycle of poverty.  Come and join us in demonstrating the love of Jesus to the least of these -the orphaned child.
