2020 In Review

I have taken a few moments to look back on 2020 over the past several weeks to consider all that was accomplished within our movement.  Starting out the year I had dubbed it ‘Epic’ knowing that we could experience some milestones, bless many more children, and advance the Kingdom as we journeyed together.

Regrettably, 2020 will be remembered by many for all the wrong reasons.  We experienced a pandemic in our country that was at the top of the news most days that affected our way of life.  When COVID-19 didn’t headline the news, we were disturbed by videos of injustice, social unrest, or an election process that reached an all-time low.  2020 was disruptive for many reasons and it didn’t seem that our families, communities, or our country could catch a break.

At Global Orphan Relief our work marched on in 2020.  In fact, some of the same disruptions we experienced here were magnified for the children we serve in the field as schools were closed for a period of time, supply-chain disruptions occurred causing some prices to spike and food supplies to diminish, and travel restrictions kept us from deploying to the field.

You would think that these circumstances are a formula for chaos for our cause, but what we found is God’s faithfulness to the needs of His children is never-ending.  Milestones were met as we served more children, and more here at home joined the movement.  A couple of achievements for 2020:

-We exceeded 1,440 children being served within our three initiatives in July.  We set this course in August 2014 when we served just 90 orphaned children in Pakistan and Zambia.

-We finished the year serving 2,708 vulnerable children: an increase of 113% from Dec 2019.

-We provided 21,696 months of care within our initiatives: an increase of 58% over 2019.

-We hosted the Un-Gala in October that had a total participation of 140 attendees.

-Launched a pilot-program within our home-based care initiative to care for Widows and Orphans in Pakistan.

-In 2020 we had 176 funding partners during the year.

-We increased funding in 2020 to $285,966, or 27% increase over 2019.

And the list goes on…  We are so grateful for our funding partners, our field partners, and of course, the Father as He guides and provides for this ministry.

Over the course of last year, my daughters gave me a hard-time about 2020 being ‘Epic’ as we experienced lock-down together, but through it all the Father provided a pretty amazing year regardless of the negative circumstances that seemed to come from every direction.

Weeks ago, I labeled 2021 as ‘Impossible’ as this coming year will be far more challenging for the movement as needs increase in the field, the number of children being served continues to grow, and things at home may not be much improved.  I don’t mean this in a negative sense, only that the Father is going to show up in a bigger way for His children.  What we will undertake in 2021 will be impossible in our humanity.  I am looking forward to seeing what He does with our band of like-hearted adventurers on the behalf of His children…

Thank you for all that you do for these precious children!

Blessings,
