Prayers from Nepal

GO! | Praying for You

May 26, 2020  –by Arjun Dhakal

The following is from a Friend of Global Orphan Relief in Nepal.  After I read this last week I thought this was especially appropriate to pass on to you in hopes that you may be encouraged. With Arjun’s permission I am providing you the following:

——————————-

Warm Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We are keep thinking and praying for you as always.

I am so grateful for each of you and your partnership for every time and all your unceasing prayers in sustaining as well as response to this current crisis. This is a very stressful time throughout the world. The economy is stressed, businesses are stressed, organizations are stressed, countries are stressed, families are stressed and, to be honest, I have begun to notice the stress catching up to me on a personal level as well, when I see the workers who were surviving only through daily wages, we are on our third week of lock-down; normally; they are suffering so badly and many people are being hopeless & helpless.

When a crisis first hits, people, but people/leaders especially (serving in the frontline), experience a kind of “adrenaline” that kicks in. This adrenaline gives some needed (almost superhuman) strength and ability to respond in pro-active and often protective ways. I have certainly seen that in our teams and been working longer hours, weekends, and nights.

Let me encourage you, as I speak this to myself more than anyone else: be kind to yourself right now. Get some rest. Be patient with yourself and others. Show yourself grace and show others grace. There is always more than could be done, should be done, or will be done. But God has not called us to be hero’s the world needs; he has called us to join Him in His mission as children of His. There is a big difference. He is a perfect Heavenly Father; we are His children being perfected, but not yet perfect. Show yourself grace.

Take time to be alone with God. Take time to grieve. Take time to express your frustrations to God. Cast your burdens, cares, and anxiety on Him as He is Gentle in Heart ! Be honest with God, yourself, and with a trusted friend, pastor, mentor, or advisor. Try to get into a healthier and more sustainable rhythm (sleeping, eating, walking, devotions, family time, etc.) despite all the chaos. Take breaks. Guard your heart. Forgive yourself and forgive others. Be merciful to yourself and others. Have the courage to say “no” when you are being stretched too thin for too long. But be gracious. We are all trying to figure this out together and navigate these times.

These are volatile and emotional times. These are uncertain, unfamiliar, unknown times. These are scary times in many ways (reality and perception). It is vital as leaders that we recognize and acknowledge this touches us too. We are affected by others stress and our own stress. We have our own concerns, fears, and anxieties to battle with. In the process of serving others; please don’t fail to also care for yourself.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:38-42

Thank you for standing with us in prayers and practical support.  May the Lord help us to overcome the current situation and to serve Him & people who are in desperate need.

Take care and stay safe. We love you and praying for you & yours as always.

With Much Prayers, Arjun & Family

Global Orphan Relief has been serving orphaned children since 2005.  We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provide oversight and distribution of care.

Today we serve 1,411 children in DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia with our Home-based Care, Nutrition, Scholarship, and Other Initiatives.  We were blessed to visit Nepal in 2018 and did provide some limited support for the children served by Gentle Heart Foundation that same year.
