The Ending Quarter

I am happy to report that, education wise, things had been running smoothly until the COVID-19 crisis disrupted learning. We have admitted 17 orphans in 2020, who are on our waiting list for support. Five of them have been receiving food at school this year, 12 are new, another five are children who had previously left Fortune and are now returning. The Corona crisis has negatively affected all of our children, even more so, the already vulnerable orphans. Food is a problem, along with shelter, because the families are currently earning no income. We believe in the power of prayer as an organization. We will emerge victorious. 

Challenges…

We had our challenges before the COVID-19 outbreak in Kenya — namely, feeding other vulnerable children at the school who are not orphans, but come from extremely poor families. Sponsorship for the three orphans in secondary school, along with the several new orphans who have joined the school this year, means that continued funding is at the utmost importance. With the coronavirus closing Fortune’s doors, we unfortunately have been unable to raise money to pay our teacher for the month of March, and pay our rent, which we are currently behind on.  

Global Orphan Relief has been partnered with the Fortune Learners Centre since January 2020 based on our visit to the school in 2019. We are honored to be able to work with Charles and his team at this community school in the Kayole district of Nairobi, Kenya. 

Today we serve 33 orphaned children within this partnership. These children are served and funded through our Scholarship Initiative. Fortune Learners Centre has been serving the vulnerable children of Kayole since 2013. To join our efforts to send orphaned children to school see our 2020 Scholarship Fund for more details!
