Baby Abraham
GO! | Baby Abraham
July 5, 2019 – During my visit to South Sudan last month I had an interesting need that was brought to my attention. Now understand that I was presented with needs throughout my trip, but this was really something that I can’t dismiss.
On June 10th we were scheduled to visit the Adoor Village school to see first-hand how the children are being served there. My teammate Ernie Vigil wasn’t feeling well so he stayed behind on this day. After about 2 hours of an extremely bumpy journey we arrived at the school in Adoor. I accompanied Bishop Garang of Christ Mission to the World, the partner we serve with in South Sudan.
We were welcomed by about 600 students marching and singing as we exited our vehicle. This is a wide-open place. A big open area with a big church on one edge and a series of solitary palm trees that acted as a boarder for the school. Then there is also the kitchen and distant grass huts of the villagers that caught my eye that day. The most striking element of this picture was the children. Beautiful each in their own way. I could not possibly meet each one of the children, but I did get a chance to speak with them and offer them an encouraging word.
Little did I know that the palm trees of this scene, and in a few cases a cluster of trees, were the classrooms. Each grade seemed to have their own tree with a black board leaned up against the trunk. The teachers I met were not paid nor were they credentialed. They teach in Aweil for a meal each day. Many have a desire to become qualified but have no means for further education. They are deemed successful here because they somehow learned to read and write in this place of turmoil. All told, there are 22 volunteers that help keep the Adoor school open to provide for so many children.
After touring the various classrooms, seeing the kitchen and storeroom, and then taking a few pictures along the way, the children all filed into the church so we could share a few songs and where I had an opportunity to speak. I shared out of Ephesians explaining that each of us are made for a purpose and that the Father had set this in motion long ago. I was honored to encourage them in some way.
After experiencing hundreds of children lining up to receive their lunch, I was escorted to Bishop Garang’s hut in the village. This is where we were blessed with lunch and further conversation. At the end of this time of fellowship is when I met Baby Abraham.
Abraham’s Father brought him in all bundled up. Abraham Piet was born on February 28th and his Momma passed away shortly after childbirth. Abraham’s father cares for 4 other children and thankfully his sister helps with the baby. Baby Abraham is beautiful! His family asked for 6-months of assistance to provide the supplies needed to continue his care to include formula. The family has come to the end of their resources to provide Baby Abraham the nutrition he needs to continue to grow.
I wanted to share this with you all to see if someone, or several of you, might step-in to provide for his continued care. These circumstances have been vetted by the local church to include the costs of the supplies needed in addition to just formula; such as, supplements and diapers. Unfortunately, everything is expensive in Aweil, so what they need is $900 over the next six months to provide for his needs. If after further consideration you feel like you would like to step in to help Baby Abraham you can do so <HERE> and have the option to participate at whatever level and to provide your support in flexible intervals. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and please pray for Baby Abraham.
Blessings, Scott
