GO! | More Food for More Children

June 29, 2019 – During my visit to South Sudan earlier this month I learned that our partners on the ground have been doing much to stretch the resources that we have been providing to them through your generous support.

Initially, when we started this partnership in February 2016, we started with $2,000 to feed 300 children at two schools in Adoor and Beliek Villages (both near Aweil), but with these schools providing meals each day, many additional children began to attend school. We have maintained a high percentage of these children being orphaned children. With so many South Sudanese children not receiving an education, increased attendance at school was one of our objectives and the student body at Adoor and Beliek have nearly tripled in 3 years! In addition to getting a meal each day these children also enjoy worship and bible study together at these schools.

I visited 3 of the 4 schools that are included within our partnership during my visit. Today, only 2 of these locations provide lunch to the students. Based on my visit I was notified that our partners are stretching the resources at the two schools with the nutrition program to meet the needs of the students. Earlier this week I was notified that we will be feeding 851 children in July, however, the resources for this program has only grown by $750 monthly. This means that we will be feeding 184% more children with only a 38% increase in monthly funding.

We don’t believe that the original costs of the program were overstated, and how this effort continues to grow exponentially is a credit to our partners Christ Mission to the World. Bishop Garang and his team is deploying local resources to serve these children, and from the kitchen help to the teachers, most all our volunteers.

One other thing that has happened at these two feeding centers is that portions for the children have been reduced. While we commend our partners for wanting to bless each child, we are a bit concerned with the portion controls that have been implemented. This is where we come in. We need to increase the support we provide that will allow us to have more food on hand at the Adoor and Beliek Village schools to maintain nutritionally beneficial portions.
To maintain the funding that allows for just $0.21 per meal funding of $3,500 would be needed each month to achieve this objective. If we can simply duplicate funding received for the first 6-months of 2019 we will be able to raise our support to this level each month. We currently have a small surplus which covers the costs of food through September at our original level of funding and we have had some other associated costs earlier this year that was not specifically food.

Please consider joining our efforts to feed 851 children in South Sudan. We do have some plans to minimize the monthly costs of food and hope that we can realize some of these costs-offsets in 2020. Feed More Children here today!

Blessings, Scott
