As you may know our plans for our mission to Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia this June are well underway.
I am thankful that we have had a strong start with the funding needed for this effort, though we are just in the beginning stages for funding the projects and initiatives that are part of this mission.

I have been asked by several people as to what are we hoping to accomplish during our time in Africa. This is a reasonable question; however, much is up to how God might connect us, or who He might connect us with during our journey. I wanted to take some time to share with you what I know:

  • Kenya, Scholarships -we are going to meet the two students that we currently support in Nairobi. We want to personally encourage these students and consider how we might assist more moving forward.

  • South Sudan, Nutrition -we are currently feeding 300 orphan children in this troubled land. We want to encourage these children and the community volunteers that are serving them. We also have made arrangements to meet with local leadership for UNMISS, WFP, and UNICEF regarding these children and 1,000’s more in need. Our objective will be to engage one or more of these larger organizations to partner with us to serve these children to expand our impact.  Our ultimate objective will be to devise an opportunity for building schools at the 4 locations where these feedings take place. As part of our Project costs of this mission, we are raising $7,500 which will cover the costs of food for these 300 children for 3 months.

  • South Sudan, Nutrition -we will also take some time to review an assessment with local leadership that was completed for our school sites by the World Food Program (WFP) last year.  We look forward to a fresh exchange of ideas to see how these 1,500 children can be blessed by our mutual cooperation.

  • South Sudan, Ministry -I have been asked to share in the local churches and to speak about suffering. The people of South Sudan have been through much suffering that I can’t possibly relate to, however, pray that I can somehow encourage the people through the sharing of the scriptures.  I am looking forward to seeing how God might bless the people during our time together!

  • Zambia, Home-based Care -most of our children in Zambia (69) are cared for at the House of Faith, House of Hope, and the Kalomo Home, and are supported my many of you.  We will spend a substantial part of our time in Zambia gathering updates/data from these children, updating their pictures, and working on other projects that they will enjoy -that we will then share with their sponsors upon our return home. In addition, there will be some maintenance projects we will work on while at the orphanages. As part of our Project costs of this mission, we are raising $6,000 which will be used to deepen the scope of what we are providing these 69 orphaned children in Zambia. This includes capital upgrades, new mattresses, school uniforms, and furniture for the community center at the House of Hope.

  • Zambia, Scholarships -we currently provide support for 179 orphaned children to attend school in Zambia, and we will be visiting several of the local area schools to encourage the children that we support through our scholarship program. This interaction is also very important in knowing how we might enhance what we provide them and building confidence with the local schools as to our commitment to these children as they progress with their studies. These children would not attend school if not for your generous support. As part of our Project costs of this mission, we are raising $3,000 which will be used to increase the number of children that might attend school in the future. This funding will allow us to enroll approximately 45 children in school that are not currently able to attend today based on limited resources of their extended families.

  • Zambia, Ministry -there are always opportunities to encourage the local people while in Zambia, share at the local area churches, and possibly show the Jesus Film. We look forward to worshipping and praying for the people in Zambia during our time there.

Our time away from home, from start to finish, will be 23 days. I am excited to see what God does during our time in the field and I am confident that we will not be disappointed.
