GO! | Heartache

I know that this is a strange title for a blog post, but it best describes how I have been feeling as of late. I do realize that I have much to be thankful for and my wife Despina describes me as generally happy so I don’t think it is anything most would notice about me externally. My perception is skewed based on this heartache in everything that I do which diminishes the enjoyment I experience and alters my view on things. I am so thankful for all of the GO! partners who support the children. You are each amazing and should not go unrecognized, and you certainly are not by me or the children we serve together.

I have this continuous burden for children in need that ways heavy on me. This affects my financial outlook and how I might consider others’ financial needs. It is hard to see or consider where I have personally sacrificed based on all the blessing that have received through serving the children, but I have sacrificed. My sacrifice ranges from time, money, relationships, and the list goes on. These are all decisions that I have consciously made and that I am good with.

What I struggle with is my ability to draw others into this story. Our story is so compelling as we drive our resources to the field to serve so many of these beautiful children that are in dire need of assistance. Our aid is not merely financial as we demonstrate the Gospel that provides faith, hope, and love to these children too. The ministry to orphaned children is the very Heartbeat of the Father. Pure religion the scriptures tell us. I realize that GO! is not the only ministry that serves the orphaned child, but I also know that there are not many ministries out there that are only focused on the orphaned child and serving these children in such hard to reach places.

In the field I am known as ‘Uncle Scott’ to the children. This is very cool, but I don’t want to be known as the orphan guy by everyone who knows me here at home. I am torn. Do I have to be radically in the face of all that I come in contact with to garner more resources for the least of these…..? Yes, I am angry, but I am angry with myself that I haven’t been able to do more for more children. My heartache for the orphaned child drives me to this dark place that only I know exists. I guess that if you have read this far…. you now know too.

I don’t know why there aren’t more willing to give? Yes, ministry costs money. Do we want to demonstrate the Gospel to more orphaned children? I can even ask the questions this way, “do we want to continue to demonstrate the Gospel to the 723 orphaned children that we serve today” because this is in jeopardy based on our resources. I don’t know many people who would answer ‘no’ to either of these questions. Our movement needs more folks willing to give of their time and resources. I am wondering if I haven’t asked enough?

If you aren’t already, you can be His Hands & Feet today for these children. The 723 that we serve today don’t all have the funding needed beyond March. For those that are already financially partnered “thank you” and please tell your friends, family, and neighbors about how they can directly bless an orphaned child through GO!.

My Heartache will go on for these children regardless of our resources, but you can be directly involved in the Heartbeat of the Father today by supporting an orphaned child.

You may send support or other correspondence to Global Orphan Relief, 16352 Prairie Farm Cir, Parker, CO 80134 or you may give also give electronically at 2019 GO! FUNDING.
