GO! | Child Sponsorships

March 26, 2019

I wanted to get you an update on the status of our Child Sponsorship program and illustrate the importance of this support for our Home-based Care program.

There are essentially 4 separate places we care for these children in a home-based setting; House of Faith Orphanage, House of Hope Orphanage, the Kalomo Home, and our Foster Care (or as we sometimes refer to this as our extended care program). Today, we serve 69 children with this initiative in the Southern Province of Zambia.

As you might imagine, this is a huge undertaking and requires a substantial, but worthwhile, investment on a monthly basis to provide life changing care for these precious ones. Many of our child sponsors have been involved with their support for 10-years now (Thank You!), still others have suspended their support for several reasons.

One of the ways in which we have fallen short is with regular communication whether from GO! or from the field directly. This is challenging for us on many fronts:

  1. Mail service to and from Zambia in not reliable;

  2. Depending on the age of the child their English skills, or lack thereof, provides for complexity involving regular communications coming from the child;

  3. We don’t want to create capacity issues with our partners in the field as they go about the business of caring for these children and spreading the Gospel; and

  4. Capacity issues with our team at GO! limits our ability to consistently communicate with each donor individually though we are getting better at getting some communication out to our Child Sponsorship partners.

As you can see above, we are providing the care for 69 children with the help of 64 Child Sponsors. This is so important for the care of these children. As you can also see, based on this support we are experiencing a $27,804 annualized deficit. This is difficult for us to manage based on the size of our movement and misallocates resources meant for capacity building or rescuing additional children.

In the coming days and weeks many of you may get an email or text, or maybe even a phone call regarding sponsoring one of these precious children. Today, we have 15 children that have no sponsors whatsoever, and another 26 children underfunded at some level. Our sponsorship levels are as follows:

We do believe that this can be a robust part of our ministry that provides you an opportunity to connect with a child in need so very far away. In addition, we are committed to improving this experience for you and the children served. Join us in providing faith, hope, and love to a child that has been desperate to find these things without a family to show them the way. What you can do to help these children today-

  • Pray for these children;

  • Prayerfully consider supporting a GO! child;

  • Volunteer for purposes of communicating updates to Child Sponsors (contact our office);

  • Tell a friend or a family member about this all important opportunity to serve a child; and or

  • Go here now and commit to Sponsoring a Child and we’ll reply with the child assigned.

You may send support or other correspondence to Global Orphan Relief, 16352 Prairie Farm Cir, Parker, CO 80134 or you may give also give electronically at SPONSOR A CHILD.
