Zambia Home-based Care Update
We did have an opportunity to visit our 3 locations in Zambia and spend time with many of the children this past July. It had been 3-years since we had deployed a team and so much has changed.
House of Faith Orphanage (HOFO) | This development seems to be maturing nicely. There is now a fence that surrounds the campus which gives it more of a community feel. The fence was put into the place primarily to keep the livestock from coming through our place. Also new since our last visit is a solar pump. No more hand pump required to fill-up the big tank so even technology is finding its way to Silembe.
The homes, the gardens, the school, and the chickens all seem to be flourishing, and most importantly the precious children that call the House of Faith home are healthy, happy, and full of hope for the future.
I recently heard a message that breakthrough follows presence which follows worship. Well, you’ll find all three of these things here. The worship with the children at the House of Faith is just this side of heaven. It is incredible to be with the children during their time of praise and worship. And as the message I heard suggested, His presence follows worship and HOFO is holy ground because of His presence in this place.
This brings us to breakthrough. HOFO is a place of refuge for these vulnerable children, but this place has also provided breakthrough for the children, for visitors, and for the people of Zambia that have invested a portion of their lives for the betterment of their children.
If you would like to experience breakthrough join us for our 2019 Journey of Faith to Zambia. For more information you can see https://globalorphanrelief.org/2019-journey-of-faith-mission-silembe-zambia/ .
House of Hope Orphanage (HOHO) | Our first home at HOHO has become full in 2018, so upon our departure from HOHO in July, they were splitting the children into two homes -so a bit changed for the children as some got introduced to a new housemom this year.
This visit to HOHO is the most memorable for me. We had an incredible time with the children. From working with them on thank you cards to creating some art, and of course there was the soccer game (football to some). Our team had a wonderful time at HOHO during our visit.
We also worked on some projects at the community center where we also stayed. What a beautiful place that has been developed and funded by so many of you. Large teams will be able to enjoy this facility for decades to come and the children will also be blessed as this provides classroom areas that will be a little cooler in hot season in Sinazongwe.
Our team also had a special treat as we got lost in the bush as the sun went down. It was challenging as we tried to communicate with the village children to find our way back to HOHO. I would like to say that it was our navigational genius that allowed us to find our way back, but it was just the strangest thing as we started to backtrack and found ourselves coming up on the backside of the community center at HOHO. It was good to be home and just in time for dinner!
I was also blessed to share with the church in Sinazongwe the Sunday that we were there. What an honor to share and pray with the people. I was also able to reconnect with Golden who I have known since 2008. Golden has acted as the construction foreman at both HOFO & HOHO. His family is growing too, and it was awesome to visit his home and to see his family.
Kalomo Home | This is the place in Kalomo we have established to allow our older children to attend secondary school in town versus the bush. Regarding their education, a much better opportunity for them here. I was both encouraged by our visit here and overwhelmed to see our little children nearing adulthood. Brian, Sharon, Naomi, Derick, Mwamba, Sashah, Blessing, and so many more of the children that blessed the homes of HOFO with their laughter over the years are now growing up.
It is awesome to be a part of an effort that is providing so much opportunity to these children that would otherwise be left behind. While there are a few that are struggling with their studies, they are all thankful for the support that the receive and are taking their education very seriously. It was good to see them healthy, both physically and spiritually.
