Treasure Hunt
Matthew 6:19-21 19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Admittedly, at times I do struggle with this. I don’t live in a small house. I don’t drive a late model car. I am not lacking in my wardrobe. And I certainly don’t miss a meal! Could I have more? For sure, but I am not in need of anything more. My desires are less and less about me and more about the desires of His heart. At the very least, this is my prayer……
As I enter a time of reflection as the New Year approaches, I can’t help but begin to take a personal inventory of where I am in my spiritual journey. Set before me many years ago, was this mission to serve orphaned children. I am no less focused on this today than when we started in 2005, and in fact, I believe that I am more compelled today to somehow serve even more orphans. It appears that this isn’t a phase or a mid-life crisis of some sort, but an opportunity to answer His calling for my life.
I have been so honored to lead so many of you in this movement to serve orphans. 10-years ago, I was preparing myself to lead a group of like-minded believers to serve hands-on in Juarez, Mexico. This was my first situation to lead others in the service to care for orphans and it was an incredible experience. Little did I know that God would be using me to lead the deployment of 21 teams, with 144 volunteers, to serve orphans around the world in the decade since this time. Wow, I could never have imagined this! The Father invited me, and is most likely inviting you, into His story of how He is going to provide for His precious children -the orphans. There is so much to yet unfold…….
I would encourage you to begin considering what you might do to advocate for the orphan. They are innocent victims of the worst social ills this world has to offer; poverty, disease, war, unclean water, lack of education, and the social break-down of the family to name a few. It simply isn’t their fault.
Jesus instructed us to “Love our neighbor as ourselves”. In Matthew 25:40 Jesus shares about the King at the final judgement, “40 And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ How can you get any lower than the orphan? They have no voice. Often, they have no home; nowhere to be.
I am convinced that the Lord is calling His church to do more for the orphaned child. What will you do? Where will your treasure be? He is inviting you into His story……
Blessings,
