House of Hope
We first visited the site where House of Hope Orphanage (HOHO) is today in July of 2010. Today we have one home open with 11 orphans being served from this project. In addition to serving the children at this Sinazongwe location we are serving 75 orphans thru 4 local area schools.
Today, an effort started months ago and partially funded by our July 2015 team, we are building guest facilities at the premises. HOHO is near Lake Kariba in an area referred to as the valley. The first home was finished and ready for occupancy in 2012, but we didn’t open until a year later because we were waiting for just the right house mom. The geography at this location makes it very hot when it is not winter.
Team housing’s walls are rising. What you are seeing is the bedrooms with a bathroom in each bedroom built around the circle which will be two story with a lake view, the road going up to the site is also looking nice. It was important to locate this building here because of the heat.
In addition to the first home, a second home was finished earlier this year. Giving us a capacity to host 24-children if need be. We have provided work for up to a dozen local construction workers at anyone time. The picture of the road doesn’t provide the full picture in that there is a pretty steep incline and there are many rocks that were cleared that aren’t pictured here.
With so many people coming together to provide funding for this project I am sure that HOFO will be a place for children to be blessed for years to come.
