Rose's Story of Inspiration
Rose's Story of Inspiration
Compiled by Rev. Isaiah Kimani – Voi GCW
Rose Mnyambu is a woman whose life stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and boundless love. Now in her 70's and a widow, she serves as a local ambassador and pastor. In addition to all of this, Rose is a beacon of hope for children with nowhere else to turn.
Her journey is rooted in personal tragedy and unwavering compassion. After losing her son and daughter-in-law in a tragic accident, Rose became the sole guardian of their four children and her grandchildren. Overnight, she transitioned from a grieving mother to the caretaker of four orphans. With little income and no formal education, Rose leaned entirely on her faith and inner strength. “It wasn’t easy,” she admits, “but by God's grace,” she ensured that all four grandchildren completed college. Her youngest is currently enrolled at Voi VET College a milestone that fills her with deep pride and gratitude.
But Rose’s mission didn’t end with her grandchildren.
Along the way, she opened her heart and home to three other orphaned children with no known family and nowhere to go. One of them, a boy she found herding livestock at age 10, remains etched in her memory. He had never set foot in a classroom. Despite his age, Rose enrolled him in nursery school. Today, he is 20 years old and thriving in Form 3, a living testament to the power of love, faith, and opportunity.
Rose’s days are not without hardship. Financial challenges weigh heavily on her. To educate and feed seven children, she often sacrifices her own needs. Yet, she insists that the children’s smiles and their progress are more rewarding than any material possession.
Ironically, Rose herself was denied an education. Her father believed that educating girls was a waste of time and resources. But that early injustice only strengthened her resolve. As an adult, she taught herself to read through prayer and later joined an adult literacy class to learn how to write. Today, she not only reads the Bible but preaches from it as a respected pastor in her community.
Rose Mnyambu’s life mission is clear: to ensure no orphan is left behind due to poverty or lack of support. She believes every child deserves a chance and she turns that belief into action every single day.
Her life mantra speaks volumes: “God gave me a heart to raise what the world left behind. I will not stop until every child I can reach stands strong on their own feet.”
Rose is more than a community ambassador. She is a mother to the forgotten, a shepherd to the lost, and a quiet revolutionary in the lives of seven children who now dream because she believed in them.
Rose Mnyambu is one of the seventy GO! Ambassadors who came out of the Voi Great Commandment Workshop that was held on April 1st, 2022, in Kenya.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provide oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition. In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative by which we are mobilizing the local church to care for orphan children.
Beyond the financial commitment of co-hosting Great Commandment Workshops, this effort is Indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting. Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and advance the Kingdom by demonstrating the Gospel to others. Through these workshops, we are:
Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022. We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically. We track the impact of children served through this through local GO! teams in each country.
We have co-hosted and facilitated thirty-three workshops in Africa & Asia, where we have hosted more than 5,000 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission more than 4,000 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and have made a commitment to serve children in their community. We encourage them in their journey to serve others each month. In addition, we provide additional training and encouragement through our online Great Commandment Academy.
In June 2025, this GO! Ambassador Network served 11,485 orphan children in Africa & Asia.
