Meet Sharon Wekesa | Fortune Learners' Centr

Kenya / Kayole Slum -Nairobi

by Charles Owino, Director of Fortune Learners’ Centre & Sharon Wekesa a student at FLC

Meet Sharon Wekesa who  is a 10- year-old girl from a family of five. Their home is headed by her widowed mother with Sharon being the firstborn with three other siblings.

Sharon has two younger sisters who also attend Fortune Learners’ Centre (FLC) while the younger brother is yet to start schooling. They live in a congested slum where the safety of the girls is compromised considering the people that surrounds them.

Before hearing about FLC the three girls were put of school for three terms, which is entire school year, because the mother couldn’t financially support their education and also provide for their daily needs.

We were able to fill-the-gap for this family with the support Global Orphan Relief provides for scholarships. This was a huge help for the girls since they can now happily enjoy two meals a day, which the school also provides through the GO! Scholarships, allowing the mother to focus on providing for the one remaining meal, improving their general health, and their other care at home.

The family and the school are so grateful for the support provided because it has brought relief and confidence to these girls and to their family. They have a reason to wake up every day and face the day with hope for the future.

‘’I am very happy to get back to school, it was very scaring staying at home alone as kids because of the many cases of defilement in our neighborhood .

I have made friends and improved in my studies for the last six months I have been at Fortune and thank you also for the new uniforms I received,’’ Sharon shares.

‘’May the Almighty in his abundance richly bless Global Orphans as you have blessed me and may you reach out the other children all over the world. May your pockets never dry and may you never lack for resources,” concludes Sharon
