Pre-Primary Two Class of 2023 | Fortune Learners' Centre

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes education as a legal right of every child. Yet despite significant progress on access to education resulting from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), education remains a privilege that is out of reach for millions of children.

These new learners were challenged when they started school.

Increasing opportunities for education can help eradicate poverty and hunger, giving people a chance at better lives. This is one of the biggest reasons why parents strive to have their children attend school as long as possible. It is why nations work toward easier access to education for both children and adults.

And it is why Fortune Learners Centre (FLC) prioritizes school access, retention and completion for the most vulnerable children, from early childhood through to primary, through secondary school, and on to post-secondary vocational training where possible. Our work would not be possible without the enduring partnership with Global Orphan Relief, spanning four years, with tremendous strides made in the lives of orphan children living in Kayole Slum.

I wanted to highlight our Pre-Primary Two Class of 2023 who are receiving aid via Global Orphan Relief.

We enrolled 20 children in Play Group in 2021 to access Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) which is fundamental for children to achieve their full adult potential—it cultivates early brain development and foundational learning in pre-literacy, pre-numeracy and socio-emotional skills. 15 of these children joined through GO! Education Scholarships. These are orphan children who would not otherwise have an education, in an environment where fewer than two in three children attend organized learning before they enter primary school.

Our partnership with GO! ensures these children’s participation in safe, healthy and quality pre-school education with stimulating environments.

Beautiful and good start to their education!

17 of the children completed their Pre School-three-year education program courtesy of GO! support which provided them access to nutritious meals, keeping them away healthy, alleviating hunger, reducing micronutrient deficiency and anemia, preventing obesity, improving school attendance, increasing cognitive and academic performance, and contributing to gender equity in access to education.

It was all smiles, dance and songs on their graduation day and the care givers could only say “thank you” to GO! for kicking off their education journey.

Class Teacher Madam Christine : “This is my first year in this school but was impressed by the capabilities of this class. This was one of the biggest class I have handled and it also happens to be the biggest class at Fortune from three learning in this class in 2020 to 17 this year. Thank you very much for the individual sponsors providing support through the GO! Mission and for all that you are doing in Africa and other parts of the world.’’

The generosity of our funding partners at Global Orphan Relief help many more pupils like these at Fortune Learners’ Centre unlock their potential and follow their passion. Your support changes lives for the better fostering hope for the future.

When you choose to sponsor a child or provide support for GO’s Education Initiative, you aren’t simply helping a child, but you are impacting lives of many children, families and their entire community as they work towards a better future.

Today, we are supporting 492 orphan children through our Education Initiative with plans to increase this to 561 student recipients in Kenya & Zambia in 2024.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care.
