Join us in celebrating Joel Shilingi, of Kakamega, as our GO! Ambassador of the month of September in Kenya.

Joel Shilingi
Joel Shilingi is a 39-year-old primary teacher at Eshiyanga Primary School in Kakamega, and a church evangelist at St. Andrew's Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK).
Joel, formerly the CEO of the youth organization "42 Change Makers," attended the Great Commandment Workshop in May 2023. The workshop opened his eyes to the vulnerability of youth and orphans.
Leaving the workshop motivated, Joel fed 32 orphans at St. Andrew's ACK in September, paid school fees for 5 orphans, and supported students at Eshiyanga and Shing'too Primary Schools.
Financial constraints pose a challenge as Joel strives to balance family needs and aiding the less privileged. Despite community skepticism, Joel emphasizes the importance of supporting orphans through actions from the heart. His journey led him to Maseno Theological College, reinforcing the belief that support extends beyond material means.
"Orphans need our support – visit, encourage, pray, and share hope. Giving and serving start from the heart," Joel affirms.
Kakamega Great Commandment Workshop
Congratulations to Joel for this recognition as he goes forward being an encouragement in his community. In May, we commissioned 255 GO! Ambassadors at conclusion of the one-day workshop Joel attended in Kakamega, and these ministry leaders served 1,200 children in September. Joel is part of a movement that is demonstrating the love of Christ with orphan children the beneficiaries. Beautiful!

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 13,860 children in Asia (unnamed country), Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.
Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting. Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others. Through these workshops we are:
Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022. We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically. We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.
We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 4,032 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,638 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and make a commitment to serve children in their community. In September, this GO! Ambassador Network served 11,324 orphan children.
