Feeding 5,000 Strategy -> 10/40 Window Shift

Feeding 5,000 Strategy -> 10/40 Window Shift

During last year’s Hands of Hope Gala in October, I outlined a five-point strategy for building our capacity to serve 5,000 children monthly, and to better position for ministry for the future.

I did not have time this year to provide an update on our progress, so I will be accomplishing this over the course of several blog posts.

The first of five strategies for Feeding 5,000, I outlined in 2022 was a 10/40 Window Shift. This area of the world will allow us to serve more children in need, Additionally, we can partner with growing churches to deploy resources in local communities.

What I meant by 10/40 Window Shift, is that over time, 5-10 years, the geographic area of focus will shift north to 10 degrees north to 40 degrees north latitude.

This area of the world is referred to the 10/40 Window and has limited access to the Gospel. In addition, a large number of orphan children live in impoverished commnities in this area and are underserved.

Depending on which map you may refer to, we do serve in four countries that fall into this window.

With the launch of our Church Mobilization Initiative in Asia earlier this year, and with the additional children we are also feeding, our activity in this part of the world has increased year-over-year. As you might expect, ministry activity in some of these countries can be wrought with security concerns, limited access, and persecution.

This part of our strategy to increase our reach in the coming years, is important for the advancement of the Gospel and to lift up the next generation. In our own self-assessment, we would grade ourselves a B in this strategy point over the last year. Please note that this will not be a quick transition, and we have no plans to stop serving in countries outside the Window in which we serve today.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. As of August, we impacted 16,094 orphan children in six countries -in Asia, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia within our Home-based Care, Scholarship, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization Initiatives.
