2022 Mission Realignment

2022 Mission Realignment

July 5, 2022

by Scott Nordstrom

Last year at this time we went through what we referred to as a Recalibration as we were blessed to welcome Kids for the Kingdom into our efforts in South Sudan to feed the vulnerable children who do not qualify as orphaned. This relieved us of feeding 1,849 vulnerable children and helped us stay true to our mission of bringing aid to the orphan.

This year is a slightly different story. Through May our support was down by 22%, or $25,043, while costs in the field are steadily increasing. In addition, we have been adding headcount in the initiatives that are more costly making our costs of care increase beyond simply the inflation that we are all experiencing.

While we are actively working on additional sources of funding, we thought it prudent to adjust our field partnerships and the services that we are currently providing. until such time funding is available.  A Mission Realignment is underway as we adjust for current resources and how we might proceed to serve more orphan children in the future.

I worked with our board over the last several months to strategically realign where and how we are serving. We began this process in May.  Rather than get into every detail, I am going to provide some broad strokes here.  We do value each of these partnerships and any suspension or termination is not a reflection of the good work that they are accomplishing in the Kingdom. In addition, each child impacted is so very important to the Father and they are important to us too! We have been very deliberate as to minimize the effect on the fewest children possible.

This Mission Realignment is projected to decrease our costs May through August by $43,900.  In actual aid to the field, this equates to a decrease in assistance by $38,800 during this time period.  The following is a summary of our 2022 Mission Realignment:

  • Suspending 20 Scholarships in Lusaka at the Jerome Fleischer Day School

  • Ending our partnership to support 171 scholarships at the Dream School in DR Congo

  • Suspending 138 scholarships in Nairobi, Kenya

  • Suspending support for WASH program at Fortune Learners’ Centre that will affect 50 children

  • 130 students at Fortune Learners’ Centre will continue to receive assistance with Nutrition though their scholarships have been suspended

  • With Arising Christian Ministries in Nairobi, we have reduced the level of support for 82 children being served in our home-based care, scholarship, and nutrition initiatives through this partnership

  • We suspended support for 103 children at Light House Orphanage (LHO) in Aweil, South Sudan

  • Of these 103 children who lost support at LHO, we now support 50 in our Nutrition Initiative

  • We reduced by close to 50% the number of Orphans & Widows we are serving with our partner Bethel Church of Pakistan

  • We have also deferred some administrative, fundraising, and program management costs for this time-period

To remain transparent, we wanted to make you aware of these changes in our ministry.  We trust that the Father will continue to bless these children with or without our direct involvement moving forward.

We are also confident that our efforts will bear fruit in the coming months that will provide additional funding to not only restart some of the above suspended programs/projects, but we have another 38 field projects in various stages of planning that could benefit an additional 4,400 orphan children in the coming years.

From our 2022 high mark of 2,479 children in May, this realignment will reduce our headcount by 369 children.  We believe that his was the best possible outcome based on the resource constraints that we are now experiencing.  Should you have any questions in this regard please reach out to our office.

As for now, we continue to press ahead looking for ways that He may direct us to serve His children as we journey into the unknown.
