Schovia Blessed by GO! Ambassadors

SCOVIA WASHOSH MADAM -A STORY OF IMPACT

by Isaiah Kimani, GO! Kenya Director

Kawangware, Kenya

December 15, 2022

Jane Khadi started Kawangware Initiative in 2012. The goal was to provide a loving home for orphans and vulnerable children. They started with seven kids. Currently, they have forty-six kids living in Kawangware’S Muslim area. They moved there in November 2022 after a fire gutted their premises.

Introducing Scovia

"We are happy to introduce Scovia. We found her abandoned at a dumpsite at a place called, Deliverance in Kawangware. She was a few days old. “The little girl was so tiny and weak. She was always sick and visited hospitals countless times until the doctors from the health facility knew me," Jane said. Scovia is now six years and has grown to know Jane Khadi is her mum.

How it all Started: The impact of the Great Commandment Workshop on Jane Khadi

“Before attending the workshop, I depended on well-wishers. They were mostly the youth who grew up at the facility but now I get a lot of support from the ambassadors sent from Global Orphan Relief,” Jane explained.

She sent a representative from the Children's home to attend the Great Commandment Workshop (GCW) at Parklands Baptist Church in February. Jane also went to the GCW at Kawangware PAG herself to learn how to better care for orphans. After the workshop, Jane received different kinds of support that catered for nutritional needs, school fees, and other things for the children.

Global Orphan Relief provided food to the Ambassadors visiting the home in August 2022. Jane further explained that Schovia is under the care of Minister Isaiah from Global Orphan Relief-Kenya.

"Minister Isaiah sends monthly support to the girl. Schovia is so happy and grateful for the support. I thank God for your great work of training and mobilizing people to support the orphans. Through the Great Commandment Workshop, my forty-six children have been well fed, given nice clothes for Christmas day, and school fees have been provided,” Jane said in appreciation.

For now, Schovia’s hope for an education is coming to past because donors are supporting her education. The Kawangware Initiative used the fund from the GO! Ambassadors to pay the school fee balance. In this way, they supported Schovia in her education.

Challenges at the Kawangware Initiative

The biggest challenge is the lack of funds to cover rent after the fire destroyed their home, forcing them to relocate. They also need school fees and medical care. One of the other troubling issues is malnutrition. It causes children to be stagnant in growth and deteriorate in health. Education is a fundamental right for every child in Kenya. For orphans, it is usually difficult to access quality education due to the lack of resources.

Clarion Call and a Blessing

Jane made the clarion call to donors, "When you support an orphan, you transform the world and impact lives positively. Through nutrition, education, or home-based care, you change the lives of the community. May the almighty God bless everyone that has contributed to supporting the orphans through GO! to make it possible to continue transforming lives.”

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We will track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment; however, we have no plans to be funding the care of children through this initiative.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Minister Isaiah Githinji Kimani is currently the Director designate for the Global Orphan Relief’s Church Mobilization Initiative in Kenya.  Like minded churches are enlisted to co-host these events under the Global Orphan Relief nonprofit organization based in Colorado, USA.  He is leading in championing the rights, interests, and well-being of orphan children by deploying the local Church to be more focused on serving orphaned children in their communities.

Isaiah is a graduate of Nations University-USA with a Master of Theological Studies degree and Christian Leaders College with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree, and he currently serves as a volunteer Dean of Students and a Global Minister for the Christian Leaders Alliance based in the US. Isaiah is an ordained minister of the Word with Christian Leaders Alliance and a member of Parklands Baptist Church Westlands in Nairobi. He also serves as a Director in the Kenya National Congress of Pentecostal Churches (KNCPC).  Isaiah is the husband to Ruth Sheen and a father to Gracious.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. As of October, we serve 6,559 children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia in our Home-based Care, Education, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization Initiatives.
