2022 Journey of Faith | Church Mobilization

2022 Journey of Faith | Church Mobilization

December 13, 2022

We spent October 30-31 in Kitwe as we launched our newest initiative, Church Mobilization, in Zambia by hosting a Great Commandment Workshop at Kitwe Central Church. Kitwe is Zambia’s 2nd largest city.

There was some anticipation building as we visited several churches in Kitwe on Sunday, October 30th, in an effort to boost attendance the next day on the 31st.

It was a very exciting time, as one local Bishop shared with me, “there is no better time that this for us to mobilize the church to bless the poor in our communities. Thank you for bringing this effort to Zambia!”

As so many times before, I always feel welcomed by the folks in Zambia, and this visit was no different.

I was also impressed with the committee at Kitwe Central, led by Noah Mbao who put this one-day event together with a group of other local leaders. The organized the speakers, canvassed in person and over the phone for attendance, and most of them participated in the event itself in some capacity.

October 31st Great Commandment Workshop Highlights

The team was able to enlist some fantastic speakers to share with the attendees to include the Mayor of Kitwe. I was encouraged and challenged by the local people during this workshop. The reception and response to this coordinated effort to mobilize the Church was overwhelming!

We hosted 245 local ministry leaders during the day, and at the conclusion of our time together, 195 of the attendees agreed to serve orphans in their community.

This is how the Father wants to move on the behalf of his children, with the local church body walking out in obedience to the scripture. This really is a beautiful thing! We look forward to big things from this group of Ambassadors going into 2023.

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops when we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this growing network of GO! Ambassadors, however, we have no plans to be funding the care of children through this initiative. We have held ten Great Commandment Workshop events in Kenya and one in Zambia since our launch in February 2022.

We have enlisted 655 GO! Ambassadors since February 2022, who now serve more than 2,700 orphan children today.

Scott Nordstrom leads GO! today and was a co-founder when we launched in 2005. Scott has served with GO! for 17-years. Scott has been instrumental in deploying 166 volunteers on 27 teams to the mission field, and has personally served in DR Congo, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, South Sudan, and Zambia. Scott is a published author and speaks in the United States, as well as, internationally regarding child welfare and matters of faith, hope, and love.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. In October 2022, we served 6,559 orphan children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within our Home-based Care, Scholarship, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization Initiatives.
