Following the recently concluded primary exams of grades seven and eight in October, students with school meals support from Global Orphanage Relief have outshone their neighboring schools with flying colors.

The best students who hail from Lueth-wek say their successes are boosted by the feeding program being provided by Global Orphan Relief (GO!) in cooperation with Christ Mission to the World.

Samuel Garang Athian, says he is privileged to be part of the school where school meals are distributed freely. “I performed well during these exams because of the feeding we get at our school. I am happy because of being fortunate to have this opportunity. I am grateful to God and to our donors for taking us this far.” Samuel explains his feeling after being announced the second best at his school.

Samuel scored 412 marks out of 450 total marks in his exams and became the second the second-best student.

Though he hails from poor family who couldn’t afford his school fees, Samuel hopes that his future has been shaped by GO-feeding sponsorship at their school and believes that he will make good use of the chance so that he reaches his next level (secondary school).

At Lueth-wek, the total number registered at school is 570 children without parental care or orphans. Though these children were primarily admitted at this school to help them to not starve from lack of food at their homes, getting them to learn and have better future came in as a second option, according to the administrators.

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) and Christ Mission to the World (CMW) which set up village schools with free feedings, have boosted the Education system in Northern Bahr el Ghazal especially those that fall under the criteria of being orphans or children with no parental care.

These schools have positively impacted the campaign of “go back to school” for every child where parents are urged to allow their children to go to school.

Although the admission criteria created difficulties to admit vulnerable children especially the orphans, a few girls with determination and bright performance have been admitted into these schools recently which is boosting rural education in the state.

We have served in South Sudan since 2016 and have provided an estimated 1.7 million meals impacting more than 3,200 children in South Sudan. The scale of this initiative has grown by over 7 times since our launch in 2016, and this growth is driven by the near-famine conditions and other socio-economic challenges in this country.

In cooperation with two partners, Kids for the Kingdom & Christ Mission to the World, there has been $130,000 invested in these three school sites since October 2020. This investment provides for clean water, kitchens, storerooms, and latrines, all which allows for cost-effective distribution of food aid in these communities.
