2022 October Reporting

October 2022 Reporting

by Scott Nordstrom

November 23, 2022

I am so encouraged my what I am seeing in the field in response to our various initiatives, and especially our new Church Mobilization effort.

The response has been overwhelming and beyond expectation in Kenya, and we expect good things in Zambia in the coming months.

Most importantly, orphan children are seeing the Church respond to their needs. We are now serving more children than ever in our 17-year history, and based on our recent board retreat, we are planning for aggressive growth through 2023. Our largest growth will come in our Education and Church Mobilization Initiatives in 2023.

With 312 Ambassadors reporting from Kenya earlier this month, we learned that 2,711 orphan children were blessed in various ways by the local Church in October.  The Church Mobilization Initiative is now becoming a movement as people are walking out in obedience the scriptures.

Also in October, we had a great ministry time today with our first Ambassador Summit. 29 GO! Ambassadors came together, or about 60% of the total number of Ambassadors from our February event at Parklands Baptist Church (PBC) in Nairobi.  The also had an event the same day as our Summit so some might have opted to be there instead. The team was encouraged by various speakers. The name of the Lord was glorified. The immediate feedback was that the participants were happy about the program. They were deeply encouraged to continue serving orphan children and others provoked to start orphan specific ministries and community programs.  50 GO! Ambassadors from PBC served 1,047 orphan children in October!

Our ministry has been blessed by so many quality partners in the field over the years, and now we are so encouraged by the network of GO! Ambassadors that are now serving orphan children in their own communities.

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We will track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment; however, we have no plans to be funding the care of children through this initiative. We have held ten Great Commandment Workshop events in Kenya since our launch in February 2022. We launched the Church Mobilization Initiative in Zambia last month on October 31st.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others.  Through these workshops we are:

Minister Isaiah Githinji Kimani is currently the Director designate for the Global Orphan Relief’s Church Mobilization Initiative globally as we plan to launch here in the U.S. and India in 2023.  He coordinates and leads Great Commandment Workshops throughout Kenya and was instrumental in coordinating with our team in Zambia. Like minded churches are enlisted to co-host these events under the Global Orphan Relief nonprofit organization based in Colorado, USA.  He is leading in championing the rights, interests, and well-being of orphan children by deploying the local Church to be more focused on serving orphaned children in their communities.

Scott Nordstrom leads GO! today and was a co-founder when we launched in 2005. Scott has served with GO! for 16-years. Scott has been instrumental in deploying 166 volunteers on 27 teams to the mission field, and has personally served in DR Congo, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, South Sudan, and Zambia. Scott is a published author and has also spoke in the United States, as well as, internationally regarding child welfare and matters of faith, hope, and love.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care. As of October, we serve 6,559 orphan children in DR Congo, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within our Home-based Care, Scholarship, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization Initiatives.
