2022 Kenya | Great Commandment Workshop Update

February 2022

Mombasa & Nairobi, Kenya

Our launch last month could not have gone much better as we joined with many local pastors and ministry leaders in Kenya. In all, we had 303 Kenyan leaders join us to dialogue about the Great Commandment and how each of us might play a role.

This Church Mobilization effort is more than fifteen years in the making, and we believe that God has been preparing us and His people for this moment. Scripture to consider:

Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”  Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” -Matthew 22:37-40

For us, our effort is focused on care for the orphan child, and we enjoyed a robust exchange of ideas with workshop attendees

To hear from our President & Founder Scott Nordstrom, as he shares his vision for the Great Commandment Workshop during our 2021 Gala celebration this past fall:

We look forward to working with these leaders to hold additional workshops in 2022, and to encourage the attendees to serve the orphan children in their communities. In addition, we will be posting videos in the coming weeks so you can experience firsthand the discussion that took place last month in Kenya.

At the largest meeting held last month in Nairobi, we had forty-five leaders make commitments to serve orphan children in their communities!

These workshops can be full-day events, and when smaller audiences are expected we can condense down to three hours. Each workshop is really a local or regional gathering where local leaders share from their own experience of serving the impoverished. A representative of GO! works with the co-host of the event to provide assistance with food and other materials for the attendees when appropriate.

We can already see God working through this mobilization effort as local churches consider how they might serve orphaned children. These Great Commandment Workshops are simply formalizing this process within the church to form local teams to encourage one another to become Great Commandment leaders in their communities. It is a beautiful thing!
