Great Commandment Workshop

GREAT COMMANDMENT WORKSHOP (GCW) INITIATIVE

The GCW is really a church mobilization effort to serve orphan children. While our theme will be for the Church to serve the impoverished our emphasis will be on our mission to serve orphan children.

We realize that this is very different than our other three initiatives; home-based care, scholarship, and nutrition, we do believe that it is an opportunity now available to us and we intend to work with our partners in the field and our team in Kenya, to leverage our experience to encourage, train, and teach the Church to serve others.

This effort is more than fifteen years in the making and we believe that God has been preparing us and His people for this moment. Scriptures to consider:

Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”  Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” -Matthew 22:37-40

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. --James 1:27 (NLT)

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. -Isaiah 1:17 (NLT)

For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” -Galatians 5:14 (NLT)

Hear from our President & Founder Scott Nordstrom, as he shares his vision for the Great Commandment Workshop during our 2021 Gala celebration this past fall:

GCW INITIATIVE PLAN:

What: Why & How to Serve Others -Empowering the Body to serve others as Christ commanded equipping the church to love the orphaned child.

Objective:  To encourage and deploy the local church to serve the poor as a great commandment effort, and in the process proliferate the Gospel. We will have a high priority on the 10/40 Window that is unserved and unreached by the Gospel.

Why:  This is what scripture commands us to do.  As believers in Jesus we are to be doers of the Word.

Costs: GO! to provide funding for each event to subsidize food, attendance, venue, and other related costs.  It will be our co-host’s decision as to whether there will be a charge to attendees.

Objective/Impact:

†       100+ attendees per Event | Pastors, Church Leaders, and Laypeople

†       Host 2 events in 2022

†       Attendees to move out with intention to serve the poor

†       By end of 2022 establish 40 Ambassadors serving orphan children in some way

†       Indigenous, Self-Propagating, & Self-Supporting

†       Important that GCW is a local/regional/country program effort and not American

Suggested Format: Workshop will be a full day to include up to six local/regional Church leaders sharing from their own experience of serving the impoverished. A minimum of one speaker will have experience specific to caring for orphaned children in some way. A representative of GO! will close the Workshop. Lunch and other materials will be included to the attendees as well.

In a non-formal way, we can see God working through us to mobilize the local church to serve orphaned children going back to 2006. We are simply formalizing this effort and forming local teams to encourage the local Church (the people in whatever capacity) through the process of becoming Great Commandment leaders in their communities.
