GO! | Keep the Faith

GO! | KEEP THE FAITH

July 20, 2021

By Scott Nordstrom

As I get down the wire on my prep for deploying to Kenya next month (I leave on July 31st), and am being reminded of many things.  I have not been in Africa since 2019, so I may be a bit out of practice or rhythm with my preparation.  In this process over the last 3 weeks the Father has brought me back to the following scripture:

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Now Paul seems to be writing this in the past tense as he references finishing his course.  The epistle of 2 Timothy is thought to have been written during Paul’s 2nd imprisonment in Rome shorty before his martyrdom.  Nonetheless, this appears to have application for us today.

Our 2021 Bridge of Hope Mission will take us to Kenya for several weeks in preparation for work in coming years.  I refer to ‘us’ because that are so many involved with this mission, but I am traveling alone.  I am looking forward to what God will accomplish with my time there, but this is not without trepidation.  I am expecting the unexpected and I am so thankful for so many who have supported this mission so far, but this effort has not been without its detractors.

Deploying to Kenya is more challenging than previous trips due to more uncertainty in our world today.  There are more medical precautions and testing required, and potentially challenges with getting back home as planned.  I go to Kenya in a couple of weeks with the hope that things will be closer to normal in 2022 when we can deploy more teams, but we have no way of knowing for sure.  All I can do is be obedient to what our King is leading me to do; exciting, but sometimes scary…  At the very least we are dealing with more unknowns today than ever before in our ministry.

I find that many people do not understand my mindset regarding the care for the orphan child.  Admittedly, I sometimes surprise myself, but I am simply being obedient to what the Father is asking me to do.  I am so grateful for so many of you that have joined me on this journey since we became Global Orphan Relief in 2005, so this adventure, or calling to serve the orphan child, is no longer mine alone.

I recall a proverb of unknown origin I read on the wall of an African Airport some years ago, “If you want to walk fast, walk alone. But if you want to walk far, walk together.”

While being obedient to the Father might be simple, it is not always easy.  This ministry requires fight and faith as we move forward into the unknown.  Together, I am confident that we will finish the course…
