Bridge of Hope II Mission | Mombasa & Nairobi, Kenya

We are returning to Kenya this year in February as a follow-up to our August visit. We will be co-hosting a Great Commandment Workshop at Parklands Baptist Church in Nairobi where we plan to have 200 local church leaders in an effort to deploy the local church to serve orphan children in their communities. Our other anchor event is in Mombasa where we will host a Great Commandment Kick-off event with plans for a one-day workshop in August.

In addition to these two important events, we will be visiting field partners, making preparation to ramp-up team deployment to Nairobi (once the COVID concerns subside), and continue with our partnership development in Kenya. This Bridge of Hope II Mission is really about beginning to cross the bridge to work hand-and-hand with the local church for a greater impact to orphaned children in Kenya for years to come.

We currently serve 256 children in Nairobi. 82 of these orphaned children attending school on GO! Scholarships, another 14 are being cared for through a local partner in an orphanage setting, 48 are receiving food assistance, and another 112 are receiving clean water. Our impact has grown from August when we were serving 193 children. Our array of partners and local GO! team are doing a great job on the behalf of these children, and we look forward to an even bigger impact in the months ahead.

Other objectives for our February visit are as follows:

  • Building a cohesive vision for our future work in Kenya with our local team

  • Partnership development work

  • Serving orphans and working with other community members

  • Assess Care for the children receiving aid through local partnerships in Nairobi

  • Church partnership development, and to work through the logistics for larger and more frequent mission team deployments

  • Ministry, serving, & fellowship in Mombasa & Nairobi Churches

There are multiple challenges for children in Kenya today where 3 million children who are orphaned. 700 children are being orphaned each day due to the impact of HIV. In Nairobi, 70% of the population lives in slums and 70% of the children in those slums do not attend school. Lastly, costs for secondary school remain 10-20x’s more than the monthly income of most Kenyan families making secondary education out of reach for most children.

Over the last several years we have been led toward the local church in Africa and Asia -meaning that we should explore how we can partner with the local people to care for the orphaned children in their midst.  We are being called to carry out the Great Commandment by serving orphaned children in partnership with the local church not in place of them, and we fulfill the Great Commission in the process!

Our work has grown during the pandemic, and we have not even considered a pause as we served more children in 2021 than ever in the history of our ministry.

My final step in returning to Africa is to raise the $4,500 needed to cover mission travel which includes deploying our Nairobi team to Mombasa. In addition, we have a need for $5,300 to launch our Great Commandment Workshop Initiative (this includes full day event in Nairobi and costs of kick-off meeting in Mombasa), and to raise $9,000 in unfunded scholarships for 137 children to attend school in 2022. We have already raised $7,500 toward what is needed so $11,300 is all that remains.

Please prayerfully consider supporting this mission to Nairobi, Kenya, that will be foundational in determining how we serve children there in the future, and to what scale.  If you are moved to contribute to this effort please forward your support to Global Orphan Relief, 16352 Prairie Farm Circle, Parker, CO  80134.  Please input “Bridge of Hope II Kenya” in the memo line so the funds are applied correctly.  If you prefer, you may give by credit or debit card at BRIDGE OF HOPE II KENYA or you may give on this website at the upper righthand corner under ‘Donate.

Lastly, please join us in prayer for this journey, success during our visit, safety, maximum spiritual impact so that hearts will be changed, and care for families while we are in the field.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Blessings, Scott Nordstrom / GO! President & Founder
