Parentless Children at Light House Have Improved So Far in Aweil

 Aweil, (SOUTH SUDAN)

Following recent hunger gap season in South Sudan, there have been fears of looming hunger in every household and especially for those with low income families. To make matter worse, good number of children across South Sudan are loitering on the streets due to lack of proper feeding at their houses, hence making them being branded as "Street Children".

As such, Christ Mission to the World (CMW) with support from Global Orphan Relief have been caring for over 20 children without parental cares at the Aweil's Light House in South Sudan. They have been getting food, shelter, health care and clothing. For over a year now, these children have enormously improved, developed nutritionally and gained weight despite shaking and threatening hunger crises in the country.

Being placed under Church management for over a year now, they have grown fat and healthy as they're fed on the balanced diet feeding.

There are currently 24 children getting support at the church's accommodational center with funding from American based charity organization, the Global Orphan Relief (GO!) -in collaboration with Christ Mission to the World since July last year.

Among the beneficiaries is Alek Marol Kuch, a two year-old parentless girl who was among the newest batch admitted to this center earlier this year, she is now becoming super healthy and feeding regardless her perceived weakness and sickness. she can walk, talk and eat independently.

Alek lost her mother immediately when she was born and left in the care of her old helpless grandmother who couldn't contribute much but rather begging. Alek's grandmother succumbed to old age and inability to sustain themselves with granddaughter before Alek was brought to the centre for her basic support.

The center was named as orphanage center as originally known as Light House because most children here have been parentally abandoned and were loitering on streets before being gathered at this point.

This center was established in July last year when the Church faithful of Light House Church found 10 kids being abandoned on the streets without being supportive to themselves. These children were brought to the church premises where they got accommodated and survived on church offerings till August last year when Global Orphan Relief intervened with feeding and other basic needs were supported.

Global Orphan Relief has provided support for these children since August 2020, however, their needs surpass funding available. Support for what will be 83 children in November, to include 59 children in Foster Care, are served within our home-based care initiative in South Sudan. Costs for these children will be $4,800 next month with no funds raised designated for this specific mission. With no ongoing funding for their support, securing monthly sponsors will be paramount to continue this work. There are approximately fifty more children currently living on the streets of Aweil.

Today we also feed 1,313 orphaned children in South Sudan, and we are providing emergency medical aid to these children this month. In addition to this, we are providing this medical aid to another 1,849 vulnerable children in need through the end of this month. This means that we are providing aid to a total of 3,235 children in South Sudan this month (October 2021). You may send support or other correspondence to Global Orphan Relief, 16352 Prairie Farm Cir, Parker, CO 80134 or you may give electronically to support the home-based care at 2021 Home-based Care or our nutrition initiative to feed children in need at 2021 Nutrition Initiative.
