2022 Outlook & Beyond
2022 Outlook & Beyond
By Scott Nordstrom
As many of you know we have been working diligently on our upcoming 2021 Un-Gala | Feeding 5,000 presentation going back to July as I prepared to visit several of our field partners in Kenya for their participation in the our celebration. Our planned-for release date of September 30th turned-out to be a false start, but we hope to announce a new date and time for the premier in the next several weeks. Stay tuned… And we hope that you will decide to join us.
In preparation for this celebration, I began to review what we have accomplished this past year and to consider what might be ahead of us in the New Year. When digging into the numbers, January through September, what I confirmed was significant growth for our movement. Consider the following:
I then began to consider how and where we might serve in 2022, and how these areas of need fit into our Feeding 5,000 vision for the ministry. What is challenging for Global Orphan Relief is to cost-effectively focus our resources on orphaned children versus serving what might be considered children who are vulnerable. As many of you know, we have taken significant action in 2021 to focus our resources on the orphaned child with increased intention.
In 2022, the largest area of growth will be within our Home-based Care Initiative, which requires the most financial support on a per child basis, where we plan to add another 63 children in the need of this level of care. This will be followed by our Scholarship Initiative in which we plan for a 27% increase over 2021, which will allow another 125 orphan children to attend school.
Our largest initiative in 2021, based on the number of children, has been our Nutrition Initiative, which is our lowest costs level of support on a per child basis. In 2022, we plan to experience a decrease of 632 children monthly as Kids for the Kingdom has joined us in this effort. Our objective hear was to focus our resources on orphaned children whereas many of the children that have been receiving food over the last several years do not qualify as orphaned, but were in dire need of aid.
We will be focused on the roll-out of a brand-new initiative in 2022 as well, that will impact even more children in years to come. We are calling this effort the Great Commandment Workshop which will be our strategy to deploy the local church to serve the orphaned child. Our intention will be to simply act as a catalyst for the local Church body, while this ongoing initiative will be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting by the local people. We look forward to seeing how the Father works through his Church!
We have been blessed to experience increases in funding over the last several years based on the generosity of many of you.
In 2019, we experience growth in funding of 35%, or an incremental $57,965, and this can be attributed to the strong turn-out to our 2019 Gala, and a mission deployments to Kenya and South Sudan that year.
In 2020 we again experienced strong growth in funding. While this was a very challenging year for many, we experienced an increase in funding of 29%, or a $64,813 increase over 2019. This can be connected to a record-breaking Un-Gala, the virtual event we hosted in October due to COVID-19, and an overwhelming outpouring of support for a growing number of children served during the year.
Which brings us to 2021… We have again cost-effectively delivered services via our array of field partners, which has allowed us to increase the number of children served by 67% over 2020. Over 3,900 children have experienced some level of aid over the last 9 months. This growth has also created a situation where our field costs have increased exponentially. We are projecting an increase in total costs over 2020 of 46.64%, or $101,000 for this year, which is less than the growth in the number of children we serve.
The challenge for the remainder of 2021, and into 2022, is keeping pace with our growth in the field with the level of support that we can raise. Together we have changed the very fabric of eternity as we have blessed these children beyond measure by providing loving families, opportunities for education, life saving medicines, and life sustaining nutrition -all the while demonstrating the Gospel.
I have been honored to lead this movement over the last sixteen years and look forward to what might happen next as we gather momentum over the next three months taking us into what will be an incredible 2022 for so many children in need..
Please know that we would love to have you join us for the upcoming 2021 Un-Gala | Feeding 5,000. We have yet to announce a premiere date, but register today and you will be sure to receive notification once we have a release date.
Thank you for all that you do for children around the world!
Blessings, Scott
