December 14, 2019 –by Scott Nordstrom

What a wonderful time of year!  December is an opportunity to consider what has transpired over the year and to dream about what can be accomplished in the New Year.

For me, I am in wonder about our Creator coming down and this great act to enter human history.  This is not what I would plan for such an event, nor were the people of that time expecting their King and Messiah to come as a baby.

Like the original Christmas Day, our King accomplishes His work in ways that surprises us even today.  The scriptures reference that our ways are not His ways -yet we plan in such a way that considers our human condition and all that comes with this; time, money, relationships, etc.

What if we turned everything upside down and focused on the Father’s heart rather than the things that can limit us?  What does He want?  What are the things that break His heart?

For us, I can only think of the children.  Sure, we have concerns for the children we serve today (1,272 children in DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia) and their continued care and support, but even more burdensome for me are all the children that still need help.

In 2014, our board agreed to chart a course to build our capacity, allowing us to serve 1,440 children on a monthly basis.  At the time we only served 90 children, so this did require Faith.  Of course, starting this ministry in 2005 required Faith.  Faith has been a key ingredient of what has been required to move forward.

Today, as we consider 2020, the requirement for Faith remains.  We have never served as many children as we do today; however, we have never had as many children within our reach that fall outside our support initiatives.  It is difficult for me to consider these children in need that remain without a home, children that cannot attend school, and the children that go to bed hungry.

I would ask you to prayerfully consider what you can do for a child -specifically an orphaned child.  Maybe you are already doing something, and if so, great!  And thank you so much on the behalf the children.  If you are already part of this movement maybe you can give a little more and or tell a friend about all that is being accomplished on the behalf of orphaned children.

Today, our home-based care, scholarship fund, and nutrition initiative remains underfunded and there are incremental needs that are to be met in the New Year.  By Faith we move forward with great expectation of how our King might use us in 2020 and we look forward to you being involved in some way.

Blessings, Scott Nordstrom
