GO! | Destitute

Can you imagine being a child in need?  I refer to the essentials for life; food, clothing, shelter, and something that seems to not belong on this list -Love.

South Sudan Children Receiving a Meal Each Day at School

Have you ever wondered where your next meal was coming from?  While I realize that most of us have done without from time to time, have you ever been utterly destitute?  Can you try to imagine that for a moment?  Can you go to a place in your mind where you have no provision?  On top of not having your physical needs met; what about having no mom or dad?

If you live in the United States, you have probably never been destitute -at least not in the physical sense.  As I have been honored to serve children in many places, I do have difficulty communicating what I have seen, what I have felt, and what I have experienced.

I can see even today as a child grabs my hand in hopes of care….  or the child that knocks on the window of the vehicle wanting food…..  or the young boy sleeping on the stoop of a business too weak to move anywhere else…  there’s the child that just wants to be held; maybe protected….  the student that is so grateful to attend the special-needs school because of you….  the singing of praise music by the children….  the children that line-up for their lunch that you provide, and for many the only meal of the day….  the child that enjoys a family that you help support…..  these are just some of the things I can recall.

A Zambian Student in School via our Scholarship

I will never meet all 1,303 children that we serve today, and you may never personally meet just one of these children, but this makes them no less in need.  They are no less a precious gift.  What an honor we have to care for them as this is not an obligation.  What an incredible blessing to serve these children, and not a burden.  We can demonstrate the Love of Christ to these children as God uses us to provide for their needs.

To provide home-based careeducationnutrition, or some combination thereof to 1,303 children does require resources.  Not as much as you might think for each child, but on a cumulative basis this becomes a substantial commitment.  Our field costs monthly (average) requires $14,218 -this is less than $11 per child.

This is aggressive for a grass roots movement that serves vulnerable children, employs no full-time staff, and is growing to meet additional needs!  I can’t say that I have much to offer, but to make known to you the needs and the incredible amount of work that is being accomplished on the behalf of these children.

Please consider joining the movement today! And if you are already part of our movement please consider making another gift today!
