Update Zambia | House of Hope Orphanage (HOHO) | Sinazongwe, Zambia

Via communication from Linda Jones located in Zambia:  We are expecting a COLD winter here in Zambia.  We have been told it could be the coldest winter in a very long time.  When we arrived here 23 years ago pipes were freezing in people houses.

Mama Lizzy and I decided we needed to buy the valley kids coats this year something we have not done before because of the HEAT normally experienced in the Valley.  They were excited! 

Sinazongwe, the Valley, and Lake Kariba are all synonymous for us at GO!.

ZAMBIAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (ZSP)

HISTORY:  In 2014 we began discussing alternatives to serving orphans beyond bringing them to an orphanage.  As it were, we discovered that in the Southern Province of Zambia where we serve had many orphaned children in and out of school because the extended families could not provide the resources.

We were able to start this program in Q4 2014 working with 2 schools to impact 60-children.  Today we are able to serve 132 orphaned children at 7 schools that participate in this program.

ACHEIVEMENTS:  We have grown the ZSP from 60 students at 2 schools in December 2014 to 132 orphans today that for the most part continue to advance in school.  These children have been blessed, for without GO! they would not be receiving an education.

OBJECTIVE:  To assist orphaned children with school fees and other materials needed to continue their education.

FUNDING SOURCE:  To fund the Zambian Scholarship Program, we rely entirely on the GO! general fund.

BUDGET:  Based on current expenditure and expected number of children in 2017 enrolled in our ZSP, our goal and need for a fully funded budget is $9,504.

CAPITAL:  There is no capital associated with ZSP.

ACCOUNTABILITY / OVERSIGHT:  We receive monthly reports from our partners in Zambia that include line-item expenses.  In addition, receipts and back-up are kept in Zambia.  We also receive updates on various aspects of the project as needed.

Since 2006 we have deployed 13 teams to Zambia and regularly assess personally how the work is progressing.  We have visited children at the various schools that participate in the program.
