2016 GO! Gala
Since having a week to reflect on our event last weekend, I wanted to pass along an update to you, and to also thank those of you who were able to make it last Saturday, for our very first GO! Gala. It was an incredible night and I am sure that others were as blessed as much as I was. In addition, we learned so much in our first time that the 2017 event will be even bigger and better! It was also wonderful to hear from our partners in Zambia, Mike and Linda Jones.
Our incredible board and many volunteers made this evening possible. This work is not always easy, but we were able to coordinate an effort that put nearly 70 people in one room to celebrate serving orphans through Global Orphan Relief. We could not have accomplished this without each of our board members and other volunteers. Thank you to this group.
Since this recent event was a fundraiser, I am happy to announce that it was a success and as of April 12th we are down to $63,000 in unfunded commitments remaining for 2016.
This effort requires great faith to work so hard for children so far away; many of whom we have never met. If you recall Paul writes about a race in scripture -and well I think that this is our race in our time. Nearly 700 children are receiving services of some sort today because of our efforts that God has used in a powerful way. This is an awesome feat by a few people that our Father has used to bless His little children. He is using us to provide hope to these children, and some are experiencing this hope for the very first time. I wish we could see every smile right now!
I often times wonder what causes a group of people to work together in a movement such as this? I suppose it is the unfathomable love that He first had for us that allows us to reflect this same love to others. It is a powerful picture if you can only imagine. As some of you may know we came together as a board in August of 2014 and agreed to build up our capacity to serve 1,440 orphans on a monthly basis. We have experienced some ups and downs since this time, but have grown and come so far since this time. In August 2014 we served just 80 children.
I can’t say that our mission is going to get any easier, and I do believe that 1,440 children being served on a monthly basis is only the beginning, but this is going to be an exciting ride full of mystery, blessing, revelation, and new relationships.
Thanks again for your continued support in this movement to serve orphans. Stay encouraged as this story is only beginning…….
Blessings, Scott
