From Linda Jones in Zambia:  I checked in on our children at two different schools at the end of November, and all but maybe 4 children will pass to their next grade.  Because there is a morning and an afternoon class I always miss a few kids during these visits.

Everyone was very thankful for Global Orphan Relief’s love and care for them to move on in life by being able to go to school.  Many Grandmothers and Grandfathers, Aunties and Uncles who cannot afford this for their relatives are  also thankful.

I will again check in on the children towards the end of January to pay first term tuition fees and to buy uniforms.  Schools open the 16th of January 2017 for the new school year.  Keep these children in your prayers for a great year!  CLICK HERE TO SEND A CHILD TO SCHOOL

HISTORY:  In 2014 we began to discuss alternatives to serving orphans beyond bringing them into an orphanage setting.  As it were, we discovered that in the Southern Province of Zambia where we already served that there was a large number of orphaned children in and out of school because the extended families could not provide the resources required.  We started this program in Q4 2014 working with 2 schools to impact 60-children.  Today we are serving 107 orphaned children at 5-schools enrolled in this program.

OBJECTIVE:  To assist orphaned children with school fees, and other materials, needed to continue their education.

FUNDING SOURCE:  To fund the Zambian Scholarship Program we rely entirely on the GO! general fund.

BUDGET:  Based on current expenditure and expected number of children in 2017 of 123 children enrolled in the ZSP by the end of the year, our planned budget for this program in 2017 is $14,280.  CLICK HERE TO SEND A CHILD TO SCHOOL

NEED:  Zambia is a country of nearly 14 million people with an orphan population of approximately 1.4 million.  Many of these children remain with extended family and most of these extended families have biological children as well.  Ultimately, when resources don’t allow for food, clothing, and education as needed, these orphan children are last in line -not having the same rights as the other children.

Through October 2016 we have provided funding of $818,658 that has been invested in capital infrastructure, program development, and for the care of the children.  Today we serve 300 children in Zambia through various means; home-based care, foster care, education scholarships, and feeding programs.  To invest in this effort to educate vulnerable children please visit us at https://globalorphanrelief.networkforgood.com/projects/22976-zambia-scholarship-fund.
