Scholarships
THE BACKGROUND
School in most places in Africa costs money and as a result, many kids don’t get to go. GO! started our scholarship program in January 2015 with the hopes of offering more kids the opportunity of attending school, something they truly appreciate more than you can imagine. We support many children (orphans) on a monthly basis in regards to their school fees, uniforms, and books.
In 2015 we received several one-time donations earmarked for this purpose, but this program is primarily supported out of our general fund. However, like the Dream School program, we require separate funding for our scholarship program over and above the funds provided through our faithful monthly donors. The children enrolled in the program know where their support is coming from and are so appreciative.
Currently, orphans in 4 different schools are supported and we plan to grow this program in the future. We estimate that this program can be administered for under $6.00 per child per month.
THE VISION
We can see real opportunity for orphaned children to stay with extended family and also have the availability to attend school. There are many benefits to the child to be with extended family and not be relocated to an orphanage simply because the extended family has limited resources. In addition, there are real possibilities for the cycle of poverty to be broken given that these children will receive an education.
Nearly 10% of the orphan children in Zambia don’t attend school.
THE NEED
Zambia is a country of nearly 14 million people with an orphan population of approximately 1.4 million. Many of these children remain with extended family and most of these extended families have biological children as well. Ultimately, when resources don’t allow for food, clothing, and education as needed, these orphan children are last in line. This program helps close the gap for these children. Nearly 10% of the orphan children in Zambia don’t attend school.
THE FACTS
Lubuto Mission in Zambia – Global Orphan Relief has invested over $275,000 in developing House of Faith Orphanage in Silembe, Zambia, the House of Hope in Sinazongwe, Zambia, and several other related projects. In addition, with the help of our child sponsors and other partners we have provided $250,000 to fund orphan care. Over and above this, we provide scholarships to orphans outside of House of Faith and House of Hope. We hope you will come along side of us and support the vulnerable kids getting the education that will break the cycle of poverty
