Homa Bay GO! Ambassadors Hard at Work | Orphans Serving Orphans

My name is Ronald Onyango Okinyo. I live in Kalyadoto Village, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
I know the pain of being an orphan firsthand. I lost both of my parents when I was nine years old, and I was left with my elder sister. It was a devastating season in our lives. In 2016, my sister got married and I stayed with her. Before my brother-in-law passed away, he called me and asked me to help one of his children continue with school. He knew I valued education, even though my sister did not enjoy schooling. Sadly, three years later he died, and not long after that, my sister also passed away. That is when my journey of caring for orphans truly began.
My sister left behind four children, and they became total orphans. I took responsibility for them as if they were my own. The child my brother-in-law asked me to support was in Class 2 then, and today she is in Form 2. Because I went through a difficult childhood as an orphan, I do not want these children to suffer the way I did.
Currently, I am supporting two total orphans who are my relatives. They live with me, my wife, and our two children. I provide them with shelter, food, clothing, personal needs, and I also pay their school fees and buy the materials they need for learning. I have been on this journey for ten years now.
However, school fees have been my biggest challenge. I am not formally employed, my business is not doing well, and farm produce has been very low. On top of that, I am undertaking a course to upgrade my skills as an accountant, which adds to the financial strain. My wife is currently unemployed, though she is a trained teacher. Managing teenagers has also been challenging at times, especially when they become disrespectful. Still, I keep going—doing odd jobs and farming to provide for my whole family. I also involve the children in church activities so they can grow in God’s Word and be guided in the right way.
Taking care of orphaned children has broadened my mind. I see life differently, and it has also matured me. It has given me a deeper desire to help those in need, and I encourage everyone to support orphans—even in small ways. I am grateful to say the children are now happy and healthy.
The Bible in Exodus 22:22–24 teaches us not to mistreat the widow or the fatherless, and that God hears their cry. If we decide to help orphans, we should care for them as our own children, show them love, and never mistreat them. Many orphans are suffering deeply—if you are in a position to take in and support one, please do so without hesitation.
Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have served in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, South Sudan, Uganda, & Zambia since our inception.

Our mission is simple: to provide loving support for orphans, fostering a greater capacity for physical, spiritual, and emotional healing and growth, and deploying the local church to do the same.
Today, we impact 15,004 orphan children in Africa and Asia in four initiatives: Home-Based Care, Education, Nutrition, and Church Mobilization.
We focus on providing care to orphan children and encourage the local Church to do the same. We coordinate aid distribution with local Field Partners in-country and encourage a similar process through the local Church.
