Background

The impetus for this initiative goes back to an experience in Zambia in 2006. Based on our initial visit to Zambia we shared our vision to serve orphan children with a message of Hope. Later that year, Kitwe Central Church established an orphanage that provided a family for six orphan girls who had been living on the street. This was not something that was directly suggested by our team.

We believed this to be a beautiful picture of how the Father wants to care for his children through the local church. As we deployed mission teams over the years, we continued to encourage the local church to serve children in their communities.

We created the concept of the Great Commandment Workshop to formalize the process of deploying the church body in 2018. We were delayed in our launch of this initiative based on the COVID pandemic though concept collaboration continued with church leaders around the world during this time.

Great Commandment Workshop

GCW’s are one-day discussions to better examine the why and how of serving others -specifically orphan children.

The objective is to act as a catalyst during these meetings to empower the body to serve others as Christ commanded. At the conclusion of these one-day events, we ask for commitments from attendees calling out those who will act as GO! Ambassadors in their communities.

This Church Mobilization effort is indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting, with the movement being coordinated by local leadership.

Geography

Ten Great Commandment Workshops held in 2022 in the Nairobi, Meru, Embu, Voi, & Mombasa.

Kenya is twice the size of Nevada with a population of 55.9 million people.

85% of the population consider themselves Christian, with the next biggest religious group being Muslim at 11%.

We have held our meetings in urban areas and across a variety of church denominations.

We will continue to increase our footprint in Kenya throughout 2023 using this base as a jumping-off point for future country launches.

What we have also experienced at our nine workshops thus far, is a willingness for leaders to travel to attend these meetings as they are hungry for this type of teaching within the church.

We are encouraged by how the newly christened GO! Ambassadors have responded by serving the impoverished in their communities.

The Number of children served each month by 367 GO! Ambassadors now reporting.

Project Costs & Approach

Much of the investment in this mission project is based on the number of workshops held, and not necessarily based on the number of children served.

For both types of meeting that we facilitate, food is purchased for attendees and often times there are other related costs such as travel and speaker fees. Our Great Commandment Workshops are bigger meetings where we have averaged 133 attendees per meeting. The Summit meeting is smaller and includes only active GO! Ambassadors.

Please prayerfully consider how you might support this mission project.
